Basically what the topic title says. What would you like Nintendo to do in the future with their sets to promote strategic play? Also, PUI seems to release new mechanics with every block (Lv. Xs with DP, SPs with Platinum), so what would you like the new HG/SS set to feature?
I think what Nintendo should do with their commons and uncommon lines is make them almost all techable, so that they suck on their own, but shine in a combo. This means more Poke-Powers and Poke-Bodies for commons and uncommons.
However, these Poke-Powers would be broken if they were too powerful, so I think that a way of paying costs for Poke-Powers should be implemented or at least enforced (because some Poke-Powers already require you to put damage counters on the Pokemon, etc.). For example, more powerful Poke-Powers such as Claydol's Cosmic Power could require an Energy cost.
In general, Nintendo needs to get better at balance and at slowing down the format. They release cards like Rare Candy that, IMO, make things way too fast. I suppose that they can't release consecutive crap sets because no one would buy them, but making a big set with around 200-300 cards (something like that isn't impossible; Wizards has done it before with Magic) and then building off of that would be a better way to go about reorganizing the game.
Another thing I'd like to see is more playable family combos (the only playable one currently is Beedrill). For example, Politoed's body grants a damage boost to all members of its family, but the combo itself is too slow to use and it doesn't do much in comparison to other Pokemon's attacks. Same goes for the MT/SW Nido families.
