Yet another musical choice for an article title. Last weeks musical title was pretty obvi-, actually might not have been, so let me give you a hint (F****n). HA! Harder hint, harder solve
Hey guys, AFEX here, today we're going to be talking about the meta Fox himself, Zoroark GX (or any Zoroark for that matter :/). Today I won't be giving any deck-lists or things, just a discussion on Zoroark GX, its issues, its weakness, its strengths, its better matchups.
Hey guys, before we begin here's the schedule for the articles for anyone who might want to know what's when, for any reason
Last Week: Glaceon GX
Today: Zoroark GX Viability in 2018-19 Rotation
March 10th: Leafeon GX and Grand Bloom, How Powerful?
March 17th: Fighting decks in the 2018-19 Rotation, how dominant will they be?
March 24th: Fire decks in 2018-19 Rotation, how detrimental is losing Volcanion EX?
April 7th: Metal: too inconsistent? Too over-hyped? How good is Metal really?
April 14th: Rouge Deck Talk! Shock Lock? Entei GX Lurantis? Anything!
April 21st: MY BIRTHDAY! Talking about my Favorite, Greninja GX! Q&A with me as well!
April 28th: Preparing for Forbidden Light, Talking about new decks!
May 5th: Forbidden Light Released! A Meta Talk!
So there's the schedule for those who want it. (Get those Q&A Questions ready for me to answer )
So lets get started.
So lets take a delve, shall we? Zoroark GX has an ability, like most GX's of this generation, but not with this effect of sorts. Trade- Once during your turn (before your attack), you may discard a card from your hand and draw 2 cards. This ability from what we've seen is extremely useful draw support, and will more than likely see more play, and a price spike when Octillery rotates. With that in mind, discard 1 draw 2, is a pretty good... trade off! (BA DUM TSSS) Bad puns aside, if you play a 4-4 line you can draw 8 cards in a turn! However that is at the price of discarding 4 cards. This means if you are in a bad situation, you can draw your way out of it completely, if you're lucky, but drawing that many cards, you'll be in a good spot regardless with 8 cards in your hand. Now it also has an attack, for a DCE, Riotous Beating 20x This attack does 20 damage for each of your Pokemon in play. This attack is extremely dominant in a format where big 2 hit KO's are where its at. the attack in general is good, even without a choice band, it can lend a helping hand to decks that just can't hit big enough numbers to really win games, or help bench sitters like Decidueye GX, and other such. The GX attack is basically Foul Play from Zoroark BREAK, no discussion needed, because it hasn't seen play.
Let's get onto weaknesses of the card.
Weaknesses:
-Buzzwole GX
Zoroark oriented decks struggle against Buzzwole, mainly because of the fact that Zoroark GX is weak to fighting and Jet Punch+Strong Energy+ Choice Band, easy 2HKO delivering 280 said and done.
-Glaceon GX
Making Zoroark GX's trade shut down is devastating for any deck not running octillery with Zoroark, consistency flies the coop, and everything goes out the window if Glaceon GX stays active long enough.
-High number damage dealers
Anything that likes to hit high numbers will sweep Zoroark onto its bottom, and send it flying. Typically there's not a lot of decks like this, but, for the exceptional few...
Now for resistances:
Resistances:
-Necrozma GX (Expanded)
Due to pure type advantaging, these decks fall, due to easy 1HKO's from Zoroark GX.
-Slow Set Up Decks
Any decks with slow set up are crushed by Zoroark.
Good matchups:
This deck has (For me) a slur of good matchups-
Espeon Garbodor
Other Zoroark Variants
Leafeon Decidueye (Only certain Zoro variants do good here, however)
Necrozma Garbotoxin
Any Psychic Deck
A few other randoms
These matchups individually have their perks, Leafeon Decidueye especially. Those perks would include fast set up, but with a Guzma your problems disappear.
Necrozma Garb is easy, because your opponent getting energy back after Prismatic Burst is hard, so you can crush them when they're trying to do that.
Same goes for Lunala box and etc.
Alright guys, thats it, I know, not nearly as quality as last week, I'm sick and didn't feel like writing much, much more next week.
Please start asking your questions for the Q&A, it's coming!
