What Happened to Plasma Decks?

I was just thinking of this today: whatever happened to the old Team Plasma decks that used to be running around? Did the format just get to powerful? How come decks like Thundurus/Deoxys/Kyurem and Plasma Lugia aren't played anymore? I know that Flareon is still played, along with other individual Team Plasma pokemon that show up in decks, but I am wondering what happened to the old decks. I can't seem to remember what caused them to leave the format.

If I recall, the main problem TDK had was adjusting to Pyroar. On top of that, one of their main methods of energy accel, Thundurus-EX, has a fighting weakness, so in the current format it's pretty dangerous to leave him active.

To me, the reason they've died off is partly due to more powerful decks coming out, but also the fact they are rotating soon. People are investing in decks that will still be around next season rather than dropping £100 on a Plasma Deck that's going entirely out of fashion.

That price alone astounds me. I understand that the cards are still viable in Standard ATM, but in a couple of months when the rotation hits the value is going to plummet. I would expect people to try and unload the cards now for what they can rather than risk losing value, but prices for old stuff just isn't budging. I've been trying to pick up one last Mega Potion and it's been like pulling teeth trying to get a fair price.

Good luck trying to get a decent price on a Max Potion. That's the reason I'm not even going to think about playing Fairies until after the rotation. I could never justify £7+ on a single item card let alone one that won't even be legal by the end of the year.

It's only really because the deck has so many EXs. Even not very played EXs are £5.

Comming from a past plasma player, i have a simple one word answer to your question. SEISMITOAD. The deck relies way to heavily on item cards. SHut those down and you shut the whole deck down.
