Pokemon What is Johto and Sinnoh?

The most obvious bit of Japanese left in the English Pokemon games are of the region names. Kanto's name comes from the real world prefecture of Tokyo and Hoenn is a combination of two Japanese words that mean "abundant relations."
Where in the world do Johto and Sinnoh get there names from? More precisely, where do the "Joto-chiho" and "Shin'o-chiho" names come from?

I'm not sure if this is accurate, but I remember hearing that Sinnoh's name was based off the word "Snow", because it's cold and stuff. =P

I've no idea about Johto though.

Seeing as the Japanese word for snow is... umm... "yuki" (or something like that), I doubt that's the reason it's named so. They usually don't use English words to make Japanese names.
