P!P/Rules What is Played at your League Challenge, Expanded or Standard?

I am not sure this is the right section for this question, if it is not, please move it to the appropriate section.

I'd like to get a broader view of what is being played at the local leagues.

Up until now at my local league the format of choice has always been standard, but this was the case cause of its format being the most competitive, and the format used for the bigger tournaments going forward.

Now however, with only the truly end-game tournaments being standard, some player might not ever get to play the standard format whatsoever unless the League Organizer permits it being the format used.

My questions are:

  1. What format has been used at your league for league challenge?

  2. Which format is generally used when just playing?

  3. Which format is going to be used for league challenges going forward?

To my knowledge, all Pokemon Leagues themselves are open to all formats (as they should be) and should not be solely restricted to one. Since Leagues are open play - there should be no reason for it to have an impact on the League Challenge itself. It would be rather unwelcoming if it was restricted to Standard.

As for League Challenges, the local League Challenges have been changed to Expanded. So I'm guessing this might be the norm from now on as they were always Standard.

My TO has been doing Standard as she feels that younger/newer players will not have the BW-LT cards that will give players who played back then a big advantage. Granted, those players who played in that era probably have a better grasp at the game, but that shouldn't complicate things for people who started playing in the XY format and on who don't have access to those cards.

1. The standard deck format is currently being played at our local league tournaments. IMO, this is mainly due to the upcoming World tournament. Players still need to prepare and hone their "standard" deck format skills for this tournament.

2. I carry both types (i.e., standard and XY-on) of decks to my league, but I prefer to play the standard format deck for the time being.

3. Post-Worlds, I suspect a mixture of both expanded and standard. However, most players (75%+, I assume) will want to play expanded format decks in preparation for the Fall Regional tournaments.
