What starter/booster should I buy

I'm picking up Pokemon. I have already took the steps of slowly integrating myself in the game. I understand the core mechanics and I understand why the tier 1 decks do as good as they do. Now I need to obtain good solid card without spending loads on boxes and such.

Which starter is good as a starting point? I see that a lot of starters includes many staple trainers. But are there any starters that provide solid Pokemon? Also, which set is the best to get for a person with 0 cards? So far, I have gotten the Drill Point (RR) starter deck.
 
Some of the new theme decks come with great rares. My advice would be to either buy the same one you already bought or buy two of the same theme deck, so that way you will have a good amount of the cards you need and cut out the weak ones they throw in with the deck. It will only cost you around 20-24 bucks for 2 theme decks and from there you'll get two strong pokemon you can base your deck around. Stick with the DP though, becuase the platinum gives you too many sp and not any of the necessary trainers. The one with hippodawn is pretty good.
 
The other themes that you want are the electivire one from SW and the darkrai one from GE.

Both come with a good supporter-Rosanne's research. The vire one is better IMO, as it has a good power, while darkrai is basically just a base for a Lv. X.

And doubles on any theme that has good trainers is always a good thing.
 
Yeah I'd get the Hippowdown one, it has a Flgyon in it which is a solid deck. Also a set to get depends on what you want to play.If SP get some Platinum and then buy the desired level x(unless Dialga G or Palkia).
