What deck should I bring to Hartford Regionals? Greninja (with a Muk Tech for Tina and Lele [list here: http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/threads/greninja-break-bkt-bus.141270/]) or Gardevoir (Similar to Andrew Mahone's list [will post my list if Gardy] wins. Here are some pros and cons
Greninja:

Pros:
-Crushes Metagross, Volcanion, Garb, and Gardy
-Has no real counters

Cons:
-can dead-draw BADLY
-Grimer/Muk CAN get stuck in the active (though Guzma and Stone will help)
- Lele is a double-edged sword, giving 2 prizes in exchange for consistency (and making your opponent waste a supporter)

Gardy:

Pros:
-Quick setup
-Powerful attacks
- Crushes Garb, and has great shots at beating GolisoGarb and Volcanion

Cons:
-Can lose to a good Metagross Player (though I run Weakness Policy to try and negate that)

What are your guys' opinions?

I do not believe Greninja "crushes" Volcanion at all given Volcanion deck's:
  • Speed to setup,
  • 1HKO capability,
  • Kiawe, and
  • Giratina (promo).
Plus, Greninja will most likely lose to a few other popular decks like:
  • Darkrai
  • Drampa-Garbodor
  • Golosipod-Garbodor
  • VikaBulu
IMO, Gardy has overall better match-ups, provides more flexibility and perhaps greater versatility... I'd vote for Gardy.

Gardevoir for a few reasons...
Greninja lost a ton of cards due to the rotation (examples being Dive Ball and Rough Seas to name a few...)

Gardevoir is also more conisitent than Greninja (mainly due to Dive Ball being rotated)

I honestly think that neither of these decks are that good post-rotation. Greninja autolosses to Golisopod and it bricks WAY harder than Gardy. Greninja itself is a really good card for this format, but the deck isn't consistent enough to really do anything anymore. I mean, you could play Talonflame, Evosoda, and recovery cards for the best chance at consistency, but I'd rather play Gardy.

Gardy has it's own problems though. It has a hard time against Garbotoxin, Golisopod, Bulu, and it has the consistency that Greninja did last season. It takes a little while to set up, and against unfavorable matchups, it can sit there and not do anything for a few turns. And I also think that EVERYONE has Gardevoir under their radar, so it's something I wouldn't take to a major event. Granted, it does better in a best of 3 format than a best of 1, but I don't think that helps it's case much. I'm not sure what meta Hartford will have, but I highly doubt that anyone will be taking Giratina into their lists. I honestly don't think Metagross has a good a matchup to Gardy as people think. It still tilts in Metagross' favor, but again, not that much. If you play the game right, Metagross becomes a 45-55 matchup, and this is where best of 3 comes in REAL handy. I would like to state that Golisopod/Garb isn't a very good matchup for Gardy if it gets set up, and Diego was able to go 2-0 in he finals because he's such a good player. I've come to the realization that matchups don't matter as much as they did for the last 2-3 years. With no VS Seeker, people have to build and play their decks completely differently, and people can't be as reckless with resources as they used to be. It's a lot like a chess game now, and this means that the quality of the player matters more than ever in the time that I've(and probably he majority of players) played Pokemon. Rather than thinking about what beats what, play something you're comfortable with, something REALLY consistent, and something that can play well around the board. I've come to the conclusion that decks that have 3 Field Blower, 4 Guzma, Garbotxin Garb, and Po Town are going to be really good until we get a definite, established metagame.
