So, I think it is time that we discuss the Garbodor from Guardians Rising one more time.
This card was expected to be extremely influencial to the meta when it was first announced, then got 23 finishes in the top 32 at Seattle Regionals, in the Masters division.
It stayed a very strong and successful deck throughout the rest of the season, and this weekend, the World Championships happened.
There were six Garbodor decks in the top 8 for the Masters division.
This is even worse than Night March from last year. It is to point out that neither won the Worlds but the sheer number of Garbodor decks seen in the Worlds' top brings me to question what will happen after the rotation. I find it hard to predict how good the card will be then, with Item cards being less numerous in decks but with Abilities not doing as much anymore in terms of drawing (Octillery loses Dive Ball and Level Ball, Shaymin-EX leaves).
The point is, seeing six Garbodor decks get top 8 at Worlds is in my opinion a sign that TCPi messed up by releasing that card, and refused to fix it even after seeing it tear through Seattle Regionals.
It is still left to see whether Garbodor will be broken or fair after the rotation but not losing much, it actually gets somewhat scary, especially considering the format's slowdown, which should make it easy for those decks to force their opponent to play Item cards. What's more, without Shaymin-EX and Unown, Mallow will lose some playability (besides that Octillery becomes harder to get into play), so that setting up on a couple of Items becomes harder.
What are your thoughts on Garbodor? Where do you think it is going? My guesses vary from binder to banlist, but I would appreciate any addition to this thread, and reply to them when I'll have time.
