Where to Purchase Bulk Cards *Without* Guaranteed Cards?

I have looked on eBay for bulk lots of Pokémon cards so I can use them for proxies. The problem is, they all come with a guarantee of at least 1 Mega-EX or Full Art (or something like that), and thus, they charge more for it. Is there a place I can get bulk lots of cards without a guarantee of something?

Do you have a local hobby shop? My local one has a box of commons for 5 cents per card (which comes out to $3 for a full 60 card deck). Maybe yours has something similar.

How much is "bulk"?

The big thing is to just look into people selling basic Energy cards. The most common common and no one tries to add in other cards to up the price... unless they toss in some of those sweet alternate Energy cards, which you should be able to flip to get your money back (if you don't actually want them).

Interesting idea. Since I make *a lot* of proxies, bulk means around 500-1000 cards.

Check around and see what places sell basic Energy cards. If you can deal with a specialty shop, they might ask more up front but are also more likely to negotiate, especially for a bulk purchase of something they likely stock only because they feel like they have to do so. The other place to look is of course eBay, and maybe craigslist. When I still had a collection and so many spare commons/basic Energy they took up like two (collectible card sized) long boxes of space, I would have loved to stumble onto someone that actually wanted to pay me for these cards I could hardly give away.

If you do see deals where someone is trying to include something worth too much to proxy but it is alongside stuff that is, like someone just getting out of the game entirely and selling everything off, still see if you can negotiate a lower price; normally people throw in the rare card because no one wants the commons. If you really want the commons, they might be able to set up a new auction/offer/whatever for just those and then go back to selling the rare on its own... and if you do have to get stuff worth too much to turn into proxies, you do have the option of selling/trading it for more of what you do want.
