Trying to get a list of safeguarders that threaten my Salamence deck. So far I got:

- Banette (CG)
- Ninetales (PK)
- Dustox Ex (LM)
- Altaria (DX)
- Wobbuffet (PK)

And, in some way:

- Latios Ex (DF)
- Dusclops (CG)
- Shuckle (UF)
- Aerodactyl (LM)
- Sableye (PK)
- Celebi Ex (S2)
- Deoxys Ex DEF (DX)
- Regice* (??)
- Tentacruel (LM)
- Volbeat (DS)

Any others?

Aerodactyl LM, Sableye PK, Celebi EX S2, Deoxys EX Def, Regice*, Tentacruel LM, Volbeat DS. Half of them don't consititute threats, though. Aerodactyl, maybe, seeing that you're weak and he can also prevent small amounts of damage...

Ninetales, Wobbuffet, and Banette are probably going to be the most common. I would normally just Flame Jet the bench if one of those monsters came up, while powering up a Shelgon to fight the Safeguarder. You can do something similar with the other two Salamence-ex, as they both hit the bench. You could also run Warp Point, especially if you have the Dragon Lift Salamence-ex.

On a slightly different topic, beware of Crystal Shard, Shining Latias, and Shining Latios. The former you might not see much of, but the latter you will probably run into at least once, especially if you fight a deck like MSN or MetaNite.

If you are running Altaria-ex d, you could try teching a single Altaria-ex from EX: Emerald. It has no weakness and can bypass Safeguard with Dragon Mist, which will OHKO Ninetales, Banette, Sableye, and Altaria (DX). Dragon Mist will THKO Dustox-ex, Latios-ex d, and just about everything else that prevents damage from Pokémon-ex. Mist will also help you out against Stage II monsters, reducing damage done to Altaria-ex by 30.

Hope this information is helpful.

Pokedad here. Try searching the database at www.pokepedia.net. For example, searching "safeguard" within the modified format returns 5 pokemon: Altaria D, Banette CG, Dustox ex LM, Ninetales PK and Wobbuffet PK. Within unlimited there are 3 additional pokes: Dewgong FRLG, Ninetales HL, and Wobbuffet S. If I'm not mistaken, Ninetales and Wobbuffet are reprints in PK, so effectively there are 6 safeguard pokes in unlimited.

Is the safeguard effect also described by other language? Perhaps someone can anwer that question.

Finally, MOnster1nc lists several cards which technically don't qualify as pure safeguard threats. For example Aerodactyl LM's Speed Stroke attack prevents damage during the following turn, but only if that attack is used; moreover, Speed Stroke is useless against a first strike. Anyway, even given the limits of search engines, I've found the Pokepedia Database very useful myself.

Hope this helps,

well Doc, Altaria Ex EM is exactly the reason I'm trying to get a list - I need to find out just how big the threat of safeguarders are. I have some space for techs in my deck and Altaria is just perfect to fit in (I indeed run 2 delta ex).

And yes, the shining lati's and crystal shard are pretty big here. Tho they're all one-trick poneys. So while they will mess up one Sally, they won't hit the second. And my setup goes insanely fast, so I don't really fear them.

Interesting note Doc: Altaria Ex OHKO's anything with Colorless weakness too if its 140 or below. Note how it doesn't mention resistance :p The only problem is that it NEEDS a Holon Poke to be fueled.

And Pokedad, thanks for that link. Didn't know about it, now I do, thanks.
