Which sets will be in the new Format after this season?

Hi everyone,

my friends and I started playing pokemon as a break from Magic ( We were burned out after 2 weeks of non-stop mtg deck building and such for regionals ) and I we would like to play "Type 2" Pokemon. I want to know what sets are leaving so I'm not purchasing cards I won't be able to use in a couple months.

I have to say that this forum is super helpful and playing pokemon is much more fun than I thought it would be. I think part of it comes from the nostalgia ( I haven't played since 5th grade, topping at fossil ). If I win an FNM , I'm asking for Pokemon packs.

Thanks guys. Does anyone have a standard list of trainers that are found in all decks if there is one? Thanks everyone.

Standard List of Trainers:
Holon Engines
Rare Candy
PETM(Mostly played in a deck that has ex)
Celio's Network
Windstorm(Depending on your deck)
TV Reporter/Copycat/POR/Steven's Advice
 
Note that the Holon trainers go out.

Anyway, the following sets will be legal:

Ex: Holon Phantoms
Ex: Crystal Guardians
Ex: Dragon Frontiers
Ex: Power Keepers
Diamond and Pearl
POP 4
POP 5
And a set of promos. But if you're getting packs, those are the legal ones.

As for often played trainers, I advice you to check the decks of the more seasoned players to get a good impression. There are standard bets but every deck is different of course.
 
Well...Mentor is actually still in =D

And some of the Black Star Promos will be legal. I can't remember which, but I think it might be either #32/36 up.
