Note to people planning on running a government: when someone starts leaking your stuff and revealing your shady international dealings, don't lie about it. It's like being interrupted during coitus. You might as well take it in stride because it's not going to get better if you lie and say "I AM NOT CURRENTLY ENGAGED IN PROCREATION, NOPE."

Are there any other opinions? I'm sure they're all wonderful.

It's crazy.

That a country so large and powerful cannot keep a secret. Oh wait, I said large. When so many people have access to these secret files, it is bound to get out at some point. The government is not smart enough at this point to track this and notice suspicious happenings in their computers. I heard that the man who leaked the newest files that were leaked today, acted as if he was listening to Lady Gaga, transferring these files over to this disk, as he dumped the Gaga music. The one thing that makes me wonder from this instance, is why, is he allowed to listen to Lady Gaga, or any music for that matter on a government computer.

They need to make a program on the computers that will alert someone when many files are being moved, so that they can check that some thing that is fine is happening and the government secrets have not been released. The other rule that I would like to see implement is from this specific instance, either no music on these computers, and they should only be used for work use, unless there is some specific reason they are allowed. If this is the case, then head phones should not be allowed, so that everyone must hear the music, and you cannot fake listening to music.

I have no problem with getting extra information about my government, but I do have a problem with the apparent low level of security. The guy took nothing that would put the entire nation in deep trouble, but what if he was a spy and had stolen crucial top-secret information that would have been a threat to our national security. I'm sure another movie like this is going to get made soon.

I thought I heard the guy that stole the information is in the service. If that is true, I expect he will get an all expense paid trip to Kansas.

Supposedly someone in the military or whatever stole the information and gave it to that Wiki leak guy who then posted it on the net.

Thats pretty much treason as he is basically selling out his country to the enemy. That owner of Wikileaks should be hung. Simple as that.
He is sacrificing our safety for some BS freedom of speech. No mercy to him.

The Wikileak owner is an Australian. So until he violates their laws, he is safe.

But doesnt he live in the US?
And even if he doesnt, you arent bothered by the fact that he is jeopardizing our safety as a country?

I think he is a self serving pos. But I realize until he does something that affects where he lives, authorities in that country won't touch him.

Yeah, the Wikileaks thing falls under treason and you can't be tried for treason in the United States if you're not a US citizen.

Something a lot of people don't seem to understand are the implications. It's time to ask: how free should the internet be? Do private citizens have a right to know the inner workings of their government? How far does the first amendment go?

EDIT: Interpol has released a warrant for the founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange, for alleged sex-related crimes. This should be interesting.

I'd hate to think that these recent WikiLeaks dumps spell the end for U.S. Diplomacy in foreign affairs, rather it's almost like as If Julian Assange is trying to encourage wars instead of preventing them or maybe that's not the case at all despite being targeted by INTERPOL for sex-crimes.

Is it just creating more problems than fixing them? Yes and no. It's most likely just meant to expose the inner workings of the U.S. Government and how Worldwide politics operate so this doesn't really change anything in terms of political warfare and foreign affairs. We've yet to see If Wikileaks exposes something "shocking" unless If the U.S. Government gets that Whistle Blower Bill passed through Congress in time before even more info is leaked to the public and the internet itself abroad.

As for Bradley Manning the Military soldier who gave all the information to Julian Assange to post on his Wikileaks site, I do think he'll be charged for treason however Assange will not since he's not a U.S. born citizen and lives in Australia. He thought ahead to get around the loopholes and the laws of the U.S. Government in order not to get caught.

Even If he does get killed or caught for these actions, whose to say another site like WikiLeaks will do the same thing and cause the same kinds of problems that Assange and Manning are doing? This is a prime example of being more aware of cyber warfare and security. Does this really change anything? no but it does give us a better perspective of news that the News media such as CNN, FOX News, and MSNBC won't tell us about that could be a benefit rather than a mistake in itself.

I was watching one of Michael Moore's recent interview's off of YouTube from Larry King Live and this is what he said regarding the Afghanistan War Documents leaked from WikiLeaks which was a few months prior to what has recently happened:

Michael Moore said:
Well, I think that we have this "war machine" that was built on a lie 100 years ago, incredible lies that cost thousands of lives and billions of dollars.

One brave soldier Bradley Manning decided that the truth had to be told regardless of the consequences and he essiently followed the principles cause when you see something going on like this when you see war crimes being committed, when you see lives being torn in order to bring a country to war, you can't just line up to be a good German and be told what to do.

So this brave soldier put up on the internet through WikiLeaks footage that was absolutely incredibly sad and pathetic to watch and for that he's been arrested and thrown in jail.

The opposite should be happening, he should be rewarded for saying that he witnessed a lie and he's going to tell his fellow Americans the truth.
