I was just wondering if you guys will call the pokemon by the english names or japanese names when the English versions come out?OR Will you just try to get used to the english names.Im scared that I might get used to the japanese names.

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

This is the first time I will have seen the generation from the first unveiling. So Yes, I will probably slip up and call them their japaneese names. But depending on how much you play the game, you will probably get into the English names alot!

I also thought "I wanna only remember the english names" But I'm not gonna go through the whole pokedex and remember their japaneese names. I will look at the pokemon. So unless you buy the Japaneese game, you won't remember all of them!

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

I will get into calling them their japanese names, but some are complicated so i will get used to the english names when b/w comes out ^^

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

I think I would like to call them by there English names but would prefer calling them by there japanese names.I have become so used to doing so.:p

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

im lovin the japanese names so im just gunna name my pokemon the japanese names

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

yes when chatot appeared in a episode of pokemon i said look peruppu and then they said chatot and im like what

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

I'm not even going to read the english names :D
I look to much into their names...
Like Denchura's... From "Den" (Electric in Japanese) and the Japanese way of saying "Tarantula" (Which would be タランチュラ, I think :D)
Miruhoggu: Miru (To see) and 'hog' from Ground hog, or something. :D

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

During the DP era I got very annoyed when the English names were revealed because I got used to the Japanese ones. I assume this will happen again. It's not that bad though, since you'll learn the English ones pretty fast. I don't remember a single Japanese DP name now, except for Goukuzaru for the sheer fact that it always reminded me of Goku from DBZ.

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

I don't get used to the Japanese names (or at least not long enough to call them by it as opposed to the English names). They just don't appeal to me very well. The English names are hard enough to spell and pronounce. >__>

dmaster out.

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

Everyone here will get used to the English names. No exceptions. Whether you remember the Japanese names or not is another story, but you'll still refer to them by their English names.

Oh yeah, and it makes me lol when people sign up on the forums using the Japanese version of pokemon names.

I had to agree and laugh at that. x33

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

Lol @ PMJ.

Yeah, I always stick the the English names after they are revealed, but for some reason, I always think of Chatot as Perappu (sp?) due to its cry in the games (I distinctly hear it recite its Japanese romanization).

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

So far the only Japanese names that I like and remember easily are Pokabu and Wargle. The others I forget and have no clue when people are talking about them in other threads.

Wargle is a name that was created by one of the members on this site.
It isn't the Pokemon's actual name. It's real name is Wooguru. >.>

Oh, I got it from bulbapedia and I thought it was the name. Sorry. I still like Wargle and unless the American name is something awesome I will most likely name it Wargle.

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

"Wargle" is the romanized name, like Chillarmy.

I would have to concur with this statement xD.

But on-topic: I would also have to agree with PMJ's statement on how most, if not everyone will get used to the English names.

Ugh, that is such a blanket statement. Not EVERYONE refers to EVERY Pokemon by their english names with "no exceptions". For example, I refuse to call some D/P Pokemon by their English names even after 3 years. I never got used to some names, and never will. Examples being:

Beequeen (It was already in english so why did they change it to VespiQUEN? horrible and misspelled)

Megayanma (sounds better then Yanmega)

Yukimenoko (Froslass is just horribly cheesy)

Dotakun (better then Bronzong)

Gablias (Garchomp is another terribly cheesy name)

If I remember a jap name I'll certainly call it by that if it sounds better then the english version, unless it's something from G1-G3 that's been ingrained into me for years and I didn't know of the jap names until AFTER the games were released.

Knowing of the japanese names way ahead of the english ones however, causes them to become ingrained into me so I can pick and choose which names I use. Some English names are better then the Japanese of course, like my number one favorite, Hypno, for example. Sleeper just sounds silly.

On the topic of this gen however, I'll just have to wait and see how bad the english names are and take it from there. So far though, none of the Japanese names are sticking with me and I forget almost all of them, unlike D/P.

Though I can safely say I will refer to Gear as Gear even if they change its english name, I'm really hoping they won't since it's already in English...

RE: Wil you get used to the japanese names?

The reason I like the English names better aswell, because like Chillarmy, who was know as Chiramii for months haha! You don't know 100% if its the right name!
