Word Change

whenever I type "l u l z" (except as one word) here on the forums, it changes it to "lols." It's not that I mind, I'm just curious as to why this happens.

lulz

It's a feature in the Mod (or maybe Admin) CP. They probably did it as a joke. I remember that we did this on a forum I was an s-mod for, we changed the names of people we didn't like to things like "stupid person". It's basically a mod joke.

Forum censor. Just like PB to PokeBeach (without the dash).

dmaster out.

Not that I know of. You can PM WPM/Super Mod but I'm not sure if they'll reply. It's best to just ignore it.

dmaster out.

No specific reason. It's possible it began as a joke (we've done it too), but I can't think of any real reason why it's censored.

I think it was done in an effort to make posts look a little more bearable. There are many others like it too I believe. This stuff was probably done at the same time the SG system was implemented.

I'd love to know why he// and cr@p are edited, though.

Simple. Those words would probably be offensive tot he parents of the young children on this site, so it's best not to let those words through and cause a dispute.

Understandably certain swears would be blocked, like the big F and S, but these are minor swears that see common use in everyday life (and indeed, all over the internet). It makes little sense to block them.

Unfortunately, parents are pretty overprotective, especially with younger kids. They would get pretty mad even at a minor swear word.

Also, he// would be even more offensive to Christian parents (which make up the majority.

OBJECTION!

I've heard a LOT worse than cr@p from a 4th grader, which seems to be the general age here. The kid cat-called me. TWICE. A FOURTH GRADER SEXUALLY HARASSED A 17-YEAR-OLD. I really don't think parents honestly care that much about 'cr@p' so much as some more serious offenses, and even then, I don't see them caring too much to have their child act out in such a negative way to get attention.

I find that a problem in the world today. Not to go into all that political junk and get off-topic, but I think that the Internet is teaching kids about things that they should be learning at an older age. I'm still young, and because of the Internet I've seen somethings that I HATE and might scar me for life. I think we should help stop it.

Not to get all revolutionary or anything.

Why would h3ll be offensive to Christian parents? It is a religious concept.

Well so is using the lord's name in vain, and that's offensive to Christians. In both cases the word becomes offensive when used as a swear rather than a noun.

I will agree with this. I have heard much "dirtier" things come out of the mouth of young kids than "cr@p", "he//", and even "dam (you know what letter is left out)". I say cr@p on a daily basis, and although I'm not proud of it, I wouldn't call it much of a swear. Not many people will bat an eye if you say "cr@p", unless you're under 11 or so.

I'm not sure why l-u-l-z is censored...though I doubt it's because it's the Dutch word for penis. (As for penis not being censored, that's probably it isn't a swear) My guess would be to automatically change it to its correct spelling, as l-u-l-z is not the correct spelling of "lols". I'm probably wrong, though.

WPM made a post to a similar topic, (albeit it was actually asking to allow the usage of minor swears), and he replied saying that he will not allow it, so don't get your hopes up of this change. I may try to find it, assuming the thread/post has not been deleted since.

And on a side note, I'm a Christian and yet I don't take offense to he//...

I don't take offense to he** either so y'know.

I was mainly pointing that out because some other posters have been saying Christians take offense to he//, while I don't. And btw, cr@p is probably something the little kids have already heard said by their parents or on the playground.

Ok stop saying that word!! Shhh.....there be younglings here! oO

I don't take offense to he** either so y'know.
