Can I use Psychic Shift to cure sleep, confuse, or paralyze if the Defending Pokémon is Darkness and Sidney's Stadium is in play?

Edit!!! Man I keep reading everything wrong today XD

Yes you would be able to use it! You just cure your active pokemon, but since Sidney is in play, the opponent's pokemon would not get the status condition.

I said if the defender is Darkness, not me. Say my Active is a Squirtle or something. If Squirtle is Confused, can Xatu cure it?

My answer would be no, because it states that all dark type pokemon can not be affected by Asleep, Confusion, or Paralyze. It doesn't that is can't be affected by Asleep, Confusion, or Paralyze by effects of attacks, or by any other effects for that matter. It just prevents them from the three status conditions, there for blocking Xatu's Pokepower.

Why does there have to be a valid target? It says to "Choose 1 Special Condition from one of your Active Pokemon and remove that Special Condition. Then, 1 of the Defending Pokemon is now afflicted by the Special Condition you chose." The "then" makes it a separate "step" doesn't it? For example, if a Pokemon uses an attack that also Paralyzes, you still do the damage, but the Defending Pokemon just doesn't get Paralyzed. However, I would agree with you if the Power said to MOVE the Condition to the Defending Pokemon. But instead, it says to REMOVE it, THEN try to afflict the Defending Pokemon with that same Condition. Unless they errata it, that's how I see it working.

No you can because it doesnt say if the defending pokemon can be affected by your active pokemons current special condition or something like that you can still move it just not affect them

I said I think that's the answer. Which is why I went over to Pokegym and asked.

I'm thinking along the lines of Delcatty's Energy Draw. You aren't allowed to use Energy Draw with an empty deck, even though you might be able to activate it with a discard. The inability to complete the power's entire action causes it to be rolled back.

The question is whether they view Psychic Shift as atomic or not. This seems to vary from card to card.

I base my answer on the fact that there is still a valid target for the psychic shift. First your own active pokemon. So there is an effect that can be done. Curing your own pokemon. Then you do the following effect, putting the special condition on your opponent's pokemon. Too bad the special condition gets countered by the stadium, and so won't have an effect (although it has an effect that does happen. The special condition will happen, but gets removed instantly).
AND, you get to use an attack to, say an attack that confuses your opponent's pokemon. You can perform the attack, but the stadium negates the effect of placing a status condition on the opponents pokemon. You still get to perform the attack. (I have never heard that you couldn't attack when for example Syndey's Stadium is in play. You always get to attack)

*Facepalms everyone in this thread*.

You can use it to cure your status condition, however, you cannot put it onto the darkness Pokemon unless it is the 'Burn' or 'Poison' special condition.

Sidney's Stadium doesn't stop poison either.

to resume everybodys confusing and long posts, the poke-power has two fases:
1.- "Choose 1 Special Condition from one of your Active Pokemon and remove that Special Condition".(you can do this, since your pokemon is active, and has a special condition).
2.- "Then,1 of the Defending Pokemon is now afflicted by the Special Condition you chose"
(you cant do this, because the stadium doesnt permit that a darkness pokemon be assleep confused or paralyzed.) although, you can move posion or burnt.
Result: you heal your active, the defending is not afected.
