Hello everyone! I'm kind of new to Pokemon TCG. The one thing I am aware of in the metagame now is that the standard is shifting to XY-on pretty soon.

Here's my decklist:

Pokemon: 16
  • 4 Dratini ROS
  • 1 Dragonair ROS
  • 2 Dragonite 51/ROS
  • 2 Dragonite 52/ROS
  • 4 Manectric EX
  • 3 M-Manectric EX
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums: 30
  • 4 Ultra Ball
  • 4 Rare Candy
  • 4 Manectric Spirit Link
  • 3 Professor Birch's Observations
  • 3 Muscle Band
  • 3 Professor Sycamore
  • 3 Enhanced Hammer
  • 2 AZ
  • 2 Trainer's Mail
  • 2 VS Seeker
Energy: 14
  • 9 Grass Energy
  • 5 Lightning Energy
Strategy:

I would like for the deck's main attacker to actually be Dragonite. With its "Delta Plus" ability and incredible damage from Heavy Impact (including Muscle Band) It can kill pretty most non-mega EX pokemon. The problem is that it can be slow to get out being a stage 2 pokemon and costing 5 energy to attack! That's where M-Manectric EX helps support.

Getting M-Manectric EX out as fast as possible to use its attack Turbo Bolt to help prepare Dragonite for kills. Once Dragonite is properly set up, the free retreat cost from M-Manectric EX switches Dragonite with no problem. I have 1 Dragonite 51 as support for emergency heal if I don't have AZ in hand to prevent KO on (M-)Manectric EX.

Thanks to Yoyo telling me I need to change the deck a bit for consistency, my matches have become more successful. However, I don't think it's where it should be yet. It could be because I'm playing against people with current meta instead of XY-On, but my deck struggles against others that can set up faster than me or disrupt me. Seismitoad EX is one that comes to mind because Quaking Punch disrupts everything I need to do.

I like the deck and i like dragonite i think another way to get energy fast is just using Professor's Letter and dragonite 52s attack to attach these energy if it is early game would your opponent often don't OHKO your dragonite so after you can just play your dragonite 51 to heal it.
I think it could be a good deck after a bit testing :)

I did run professor's letter before, but most time it was fodder. It actually didn't help.

I changed my decklist up a bit:

Pokemon: 17
  • 4 Dratini ROS
  • 1 Dragonair ROS
  • 1 Dragonite 51/ROS
  • 3 Dragonite 52/ROS
  • 4 Manectric EX
  • 4 M-Manectric EX
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums: 29
  • 3 Professor Birch's Observations
  • 3 Muscle Band
  • 3 Ultra Ball
  • 3 Rare Candy
  • 3 Professor Sycamore
  • 3 Manectric Spirit Link
  • 3 Head Ringer
  • 2 Acro Bike
  • 2 Cassius
  • 2 Trainer's Mail
  • 2 VS Seeker
Energy: 14
  • 9 Grass Energy
  • 5 Lightning Energy

Dedenne can be seen helpful at times, but it suffered too often of being set up on by EX pokemon, so I removed it and pushed for more (M)-Manectric EX. I did try Shamin-EX for emergency draw, but it also hindered the deck more than warranted.

Removed Evosoda, Training Center, Energy Retrieval, and 1 Professor Birch's Observations for:
+1 Professor Sycamore
+2 Acro Bike
+2 Cassius
+2 Trainer's Mail
+3 Head Ringer

I wasn't pulling Professor Sycamore often enough to filter through deck so +1 helps.
Acro Bike helps filtering to an exend to pull much needed cards and discard energy for M-Manectric to setup with.
Cassius is needed for situations where M-Manectric or Dragonite may need to be scooped to avoid KO.
Trainer's Mail to search for Trainer cards
Head Ringer slows down the opponent's EX pokemon and prevent set ups with other mega-evolution pokemon. This also combos with Manectric EX's Assault Laser to deal 120 damage.

Removed 4 Double Dragon Energy and increased Grass Energy and Lightning Energy by 1.
The Double Dragon Energy was continually fodder for Enhanced Hammers. Once it was discarded, there is no way for me to retrieve it either. Having only basic energy in the deck, I can discard energy more generously because of M-Manectric EX's Turbo Bolt.

I feel like the deck is nearing completion, I'll test more tomorrow.

4-4 with 3 spirit link is super inconsistent if your playing for turbo bolt, 4-3 with 4 spirit link is a far more consistent overall, just so your forced to play with manectric in hand over megaman at the start. Head ringers not worth it, it ultimately takes away from the deck overall strategy and you'd rather turbo bolt turn 2 not assault laser, but if you do decided to keep head ringer play it s a 2 everyone plays at least 1 tool in there decks and its not the major form of strategy in this deck 3 takes away from the rest of your decks consistency that way. AZ over cassius, you would rather have the energy in the discard over having it in your deck as turbo bolt gains no acceleration that way, if you want your tools back tech a bunnelby, you'd also benefit more from having the manectric healed dropped down and ready for an assault laser or turbo bolt the turn after. 4 ultra ball, 4 rare candy = consistency, just because your line is 4-1-4 doesn't mean you can get away with 3 rare candy every game, some games you'll prize 2 candy or prize 2 dratini that's fine, thickening your lines so you have more just helps consistency wise, also with acro bike what if you have to drop one of those key cards at the same time, what's the play.

Could you please update your original post to reflect the changes you made to your decklist? Thanks!

Thank you. I'm seeing more consistency with cards as you have said. I am having problems with other EX pokemon that may disrupt me early game such as Seismitoad EX. It's kind of why I used the Head Jammers. To disrupt other EX pokemon when I can to either slow down their set ups, or buy me time if (worse case scenario) I don't have good cards in hand. It also helps out with other bad matchups such as Lucario EX or Groudon EX.

I replaced them with Enhanced Hammers, but it still might seem like a mute point. Seismitoad EX is just one pokemon that can outright stop my deck, but other decks I played seem to do fine with either item card.

The issue with seismetoad is the fact of learning the matchup properly, for manectric before mega the matchup is very easy vs toad, play down rough seas and that's your matchup before assault laser, they need to attaché a muscle band to take you down, you don't need to attaché any kind of tool, assault laser really makes that matchup for you entirely. I encourage play testing this matchup if you can.
