XY5 Kyogre-EX, Groudon-EX, Sceptile, Swampert, Blaziken Revealed in ‘CoroCoro’ [10/13]

Kyogre-EX looks interesting with Blastoise. Since it returns to the hand instead of discarding, it means it can be either moved to a different 'Mon the following turn, be re-attached to Kyogre, or Max Potion can be used, discarding less energy than usual. The Primal Reversion will probably be pretty strong as well.

Groudon-EX is, well, bad. There's nothing it can do that other EX's and Fighting Types can't. Primal Groudon-EX looks cool, though, from what we've seen from the Hoenn Collection.

Blaziken could be an interesting tech with the FFI print of Blaziken. It just falls into the trope of being a Stage 2 in a format dominated by Item-Lock.

Swampert, well, I don't think it's very good.

Sceptile could be useful in Viri/Gene decks, and other decks like M Heracross or just Grass types in general.

Really great artwork overall!

p.s. Bulbagarden already had news about this 2 days ago jus sayin' don't hurt me

I suppose this is confirmation that none of the starters will be appearing as EX's, at least just yet. I had a theory that the other 2 megas in XY5 would be Swampert and Sceptile (with Blaziken getting its own set, a la Charizard), but this basically disproves it.

The cards themselves aren't that exceptional. Groudon and Kyogre both fall short of KO's. Sceptile's ability doesn't really justify it being a stage 2 (although it IS cool). Swampert's first attack might be strong if not for the high energy cost. And Blaziken's first attack is almost redundant, with its second attack just not being strong enough.

Still pretty excited for the set, though. I want to see those Megas!

On the subject of Yveltal/Xerneas decks, it seems that this one is releasing AFTER the Yveltal/Xerneas decks in America. Hopefully the cards can be brand new [in america], and not just reprints. If they DO decide to go the Red Genesect route and do just reprints, I hope that the Xerneas portion includes Aromatisse, Slurpuff, Klefki, or any playable type other than Psychic.(Raichu, perhaps?) Since there aren't that many good Dark Types out in XY-on (excluding Mental Trash Malamar), I hope that Yveltal gets some additional type support, maybe include Water Types and include Beartic?

Edit:
And because I have even more to say, focusing on Fighting, Metal, Fairy, and Dark would be an overall good idea, but I feel that right now, all those types have good support (Landorus, Bronzong, Aromatisse, Yveltal). I can understand that was really the only way to exemplify that the sets are in a war with each other, but I just think that the TCG deserves some Lightning support. Srsly, no excuse for a lack of Special L Energy!!

At least we can use the other Kyogre and Groudon in the Expanded format. These are just awful. :| The artwork, however, is something quite magnificent drawn in 2D.

Yay new cards!

Kyogre: If only it did 10 more damage than it could do 170 with a muscle band. Might still be fun to try with Blastoise, but nothing game breaking.

Groudon: Might be good with strong energy. Though four attachments might be too much even for OHKOs. Also, weakness to grass? What the heck?

Sceptile: Ability would have been fine on a basic, but on a stage 2, it's a waste.

Blaziken: Best card of the five. Can alternate between cheap attacker and energy accelerator (not that fire needs any more discard from the deck, but what ever).

Swampert: Might have been something if the attacks were cheaper (even by one C).

Woow that artwork is niceeee. I was hoping before that the art style would start leaning back to how it was with HGSS, and it might actually happen. I'm kinda sad that Fighting, Dark, and Steel get even more support (Unless, of course, they all end up being bad cards and little things end up helping other types a lot) because they could've replaced it with the three types that have little to no good support-Water , Dragon, and Lightning. I'm sure the artwork should make up for that though. Unless, TPCi decides to go full on stupid lazy mode and decides to let 5ban Graphics do the Mega Rayquaza card (If in fact, there is one).

Yoooo, that Kyogre artwork. The bottom of the card pulls the whole thing together so nicely.

Both Groudon and Kyogre EX are weak to grass types?

Given the popularity of Genesect/Verizion/Venisaur(SP?)/Heracross you would think they would go with electric weakness and then...water maybe?

All I'm seeing is a two hit kill with Verizion, followed up with a powered up Genesect. =/

Kyogre EX has some good artwork but Groudon looks pretty bad. I prefer the 3D variant in Dark Explorers for Groudon. As for the starter trip, their artwork is OK but I would have preferred 5ban as the artist.

Also is the first intro set where the mascots playability wise just suck? Or is that just me?

I really don't understand why they changed all water-types weakness to grass instead of having some weak to lightning and some to grass (usually the starters and the ones that are part-ground or rock)... Other than flying types, there's almost nothing weak to lightning... Speaking of which, they removed their metal resistance in xy, then added it again... make up your mind PCL.
They also removed ground-types resistance to lightning, which is stupid...
btw, making dragons weak to fairy, while fitting, makes them worse offensively. They should have changed Darkness-types weakness to Fairy (there's too much stuff weak to Fighting), make Fairy resist Dragon instead of Darkness, and keep Dragons weak to themselves...

Because they want to hype Manectric? I guess?

Dat Blaziken is nasty! Everything else feels very underwhelming, honestly. Shame, had a lot of hope Groudon and Kyogre. No way their primals are going to make up for this.

Don't talk too soon. From what we've seen of M Groudon, he looks like a game changer, and don't forget that Kyogre and Groudon might get Basics, similar to Xerneas and Yveltal!

Oh yeah... Either way, they aren't that impressive on their own. That's what will keep them from being playable.
