Hi Pokebeach! I was looking at Steam Siege and I was very interested in the new Yanmega card, whose ability lets you attack for free if you have four cards in hand. His attack is ok, doing 120 if there is a tool on him. He is fairly easy to set up with Forest of Giant Plants. The only tool I found that is any good on him is Bursting Balloon, as you do 120, and an attack back at you does 60 for the magic 180. His major weakness though is Garbodor as there is no way to remove tool cards after rotation. Is Yanmega any good and can it survive with Garbodor in the format?

No, it can't. Alakazam is in the same boat. Ability lock makes it fold. If you're going to run energy to get around it then you're just running an inefficient deck.

Do you think it's possible to try to out speed the Garbodor coming out, because if you can hit the right cards turn 1, you could Lysandre or Catcher the Trubbish out before it evolves.

The Assault Boom attack is:
If your opponent's Active Pokémon has a Pokémon Tool card attached to it, this attack does 70 more damage.
And with the Team Flare Head Ringer getting rotated out, it would impossible to make sure you deal 120.
Yeah, its sucks when a Pokemon you find interesing sucks because the lack of support and so much hate against it.

Whoops, I guess that partly ruins the strategy. It still does 120 to Garb, and 120 to a Pokémon with a FFB on it. But I guess it's still not gonna be very good.

Yanmega would be best in a deck where he kinda fills a secondary role. Zoroark/Zebstrika/Yanmega could be a very strong mix providing a deck with good type coverage that has good prize trades with the EX heavy decks. Yanmega has a nice free retreat so if he does get locked out of attacks it's easy to swap to a different attacker.

I think that's the better way to use Yanmega instead of him as the only attacker. Time to start testing with partners :).
