Speculation Your Dream Dark-Type Gym

Lets face it, we all want Game Freak to make a Dark-type gym in the next game, like we have been want to for any game throughout the Pokemon game's history. Game Freak always managed to fail us all.
So lets say that they will make a Dark-type gym, how it would be like?

What is your dream dark-type gym? What are the Pokemon the gym leader would have? How would the gym look like? and why do you think is the reason we have not seen a dark-type gym yet?

I always thought that it's just requested that the gym leader would have something to do with the story's evil team, as it is the dark gym. Also, it would be fitting to see some traps along the way to the gym leader. Not sure about the Pokemon the gym leader would have, as almost all the Dark type Pokemon are associated with different evil teams from all the past games.

I can kinda see why we haven't gotten one yet, it's probably because it's the "evil" type in Japan and they don't want to portray a gym leader as evil. Although it is possible they could do another gym leader involved with the evil team again, I mean we've already had Giovanni and Malva.

Not really sure about gym puzzles and the trainers, but I think there's some decent potential for some Dark type teams. Zoroark, Umbreon, Houndoom, Absol, Weavile, and Bisharp are some possibilities I could see for team members.

Yeah, I thought about the evil concept too, but there was a Dark-type elite 4 member so why not a gym leader? Something similar to Giovanni could work well imo.

I think it depends on when they put the Dark-type Gym in terms of Badge number. The Pokemon can be anywhere from Poochyena and Scraggy to Krookodile, Bisharp and possibly Tyranitar.

I think a good team would be Mightyena, Houndoom, Krookodile and Shiftry.

I'd want the Dark Type GL to be the last Leader and even has a backstory about how he was kicked out of the E4, after someone else took his place.

Name: Vito
Team:
Shiftry
Sableye
Skuntank
Sharpedo
7th Gen Main

I also think it's about time the other PWT GLs appeared in other games.

Walter:
Pineco
7th gen main

Homer:
Hippopotas
7th gen main

Castor:
Bellsprout
Gulpin
7th gen main

Ferly:
Yamask
Haunter
7th gen main

Drakon:
Druddigon
Dragonair
Shelgon
7th gen main

Margaret:
Skarmory
Bisharp
Bronzong
7th gen main

Delphine:
Medicham
Jynx
Sigilyph
7th gen main

I would love to see a Dark-type Gym Leader that's an ex-member of the evil team. This was kind of done with Malva a bit, but she got practically no characterization regarding it at all, so it only really half counts at best. I would really like to see the GL/E4 have more of an impact on the plot in general, and have an ex-evil-team-member is a nice, easy way to make them a part of the plot, perhaps by helping the protagonist in some way. It also dovetails nicely with Dark-type Pokémon being often used by the evil team, since the member could have developed a fondness for the type during that time in their life.

Eh.. I seriously doubt they're intentionally avoiding making a Dark type for the reasons listed.

Otherwise they wouldn't use it for E4 either (which they did 3 times already!).

It's simply that they haven't gotten around to doing it yet, because there is so many types that are much more attractive candidates for gyms. It's been very clear for a long time that they don't pick gym types based on how many times they've been picked in other regions... they pick the types that make for cool gyms.
That's exactly why so many types show up as gyms more often.
Fire, Grass, Electric..- very elemental and colorful, make for visually interesting gyms
Ice, Water... also visually favourable, but also offering lots of ways to make puzzles out of.
Fighting in particular is used all the time, because the whole concept of a gym is based on a place of shared training in the first place.
Bug and Rock on the other hand show up a lot because they are good candidates as early gyms (lots of weaknesses, weaker/early pokemon)
And similarly, Dragon is a straightforward choice for a stronger gym.

Those are things that influence the gym type choices for like 80% of the gyms.
The other 20% are then the rarer types that don't have hundreds of obvious uses for gym decoration or an easy theme.

So when I think of a Dark-type gym.. most of the puzzles and decorations that come to mind, would fit better with a Ghost-gym anyway.

But in the end, it is simply that for those 20%.. Dark just didn't happen YET.
Sooner or later it will, and with people hyping it up like it's some special thing, will probably just turn out to be underwhelming when a weak Dark gym is added for the sake of it LOL.

I feel like the closest case we have had so far to a Dark type gym, was Roxies gym in BW2. It was such a perfect match, that it's really unfortunate that it wasn't.
I actually believe they did mean to make it a Dark gym at first, but after they decided that the E4-members would stay identical to BW1 (Psy,Dark,Ghost,Steel), they rather picked a type that was not represented by anyone yet: Poison.

Isn't the Dark Type, well nowadays anyway, contain the sneaky covert thief assassin ninja spy pokemon? Maybe there is no dark type gym because the dark type is the covert type. You aren't covert if you have a gym laying around that everyone knows of.

Since the dark type is covert, the gyms are covert. The gyms exist, it is just that nobody knows about them. That would fit thematically with the dark type gym's gimmick of non-existence.

To keep with the whole covert gimmick of the dark type, it would be cool if the dark type gym is a 9th secret gym, or replaces one of the 8 gyms, and is only accessible if you perform certain ridiculous tasks that involves owning multiple games, transferring stuff, talking to certain NPC's, etc. just to unlock the Dark Type gym.

My idea is as follows. Let's take a certain generation of main series games. There are 8 gyms. None of them are dark type, and we aren't supposed to know that there is a dark type gym, and there is no mention of a dark type gym, except some blurb from an NPC. Let's say that the dark type gym replaces one of the 8 gyms. If you play through the game and through all 8 gyms normally, you will never encounter the dark type gym. To access this gym, you have to wait until the third game, a sequel, or a remake, let's say remake comes out. In the remake, you have to talk to some more NPC's, do some ridiculous tasks, and forge some sort of item. You then have to transfer that item to the main games, do some other ridiculous tasks in a specific order and time of day before you can unlock access to the dark type gym.

You may say, "why do I have to do these ridiculous tasks just to play the dark type gym"? It's like real life where you are trying to prove something exists where everybody else believes it doesn't exist. That's the gimmick of the dark type gym, and how the Dark type moves are the thief, spy, assassin, ninja, rogue trope. To prove how hidden the dark type gym is, you must not advance past the dark type gym replacement until the remakes are released or else you miss your chance at playing the dark type gym. To make it even more hidden, the tasks the player must do is different for each player, but it still involves transferring something from a newer set of games to the older one.

They've had a ninja gym before, so I don't think that would stop them from making a Dark type gym. Also, they'd never make something so convoluted, especially now when they're trying to appeal to casuals.

That's kind of the point. The dark type gym exists for the hardcore, and doesn't exist for the casuals.
