Update (4:30 AM, Wednesday) - No Pokemon game was announced (though we did learn Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition will feature over 200 hours of gameplay). We will see Saturday afternoon if Pokemon Smash reveals anything big, and if not, something should definitely be coming soon regardless.

Tomorrow at 8:00 PM in Japan (3:00 AM in America), Nintendo is going to announce a new game through Nintendo Direct, their online broadcasting service that is like a TV channel. Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, will announce it. Nintendo rarely announces new games through this medium, so this can definitely be considered a special occasion.

While there is absolutely nothing that states this announcement will pertain to a new Pokemon title, based on all the evidence that has been building up over this past month regarding a Black and White sequel and Kyurem forme, it's certainly possible that this is where it will first be introduced. After all, Junichi Masuda said to watch Pokemon Smash this Sunday, implying there would be information on a Black and White sequel, so if a new Pokemon game is going to be announced this week, this would definitely be Nintendo's golden opportunity to introduce it to the world.

We should also note that Sunday is the one-year anniversary of the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. If we do get a "Pokemon Gray," it could very well be on the 3DS - after all, Game Freak was one of the first to receive the 3DS developer's kit (during the development of Black and White). However, don't hold your breath just yet - none of this is for sure and we may be looking too deeply into things. We will let you know what happens tomorrow at 3:00 AM, though, so be sure to check back! Thanks goes to Kat of AAPF for the heads up on this news story. If we don't get an announcement tomorrow, there's still Sunday's Pokemon Smash, and if nothing is revealed there, we'll still have the next CoroCoro. It's only a matter of time now!

Attendees of the European National Championships will be able to download a shiny Larvitar, which will come with Superpower, a move it can only learn from the HeartGold and SoulSilver move tutor, and a Chople Berry, a rare berry that weakens super effective Fighting-type hits. The special download is not confirmed for the U.S. Nationals tournament yet, but there's no reason to doubt it won't be. You can view the Euro press release below.

GO SHINY LARVITAR!

A rare Shiny Pokémon confirmed as character distribution at the 2012 Pokémon Video Game National Championships: www.pokemon.co.uk/vgc

London, UK —February 20th, 2012— The Pokémon Company International today announced that there will be a unique character distribution at the 2012 Pokémon™ Video Game National Championships taking place across Europe during March and April. Attendees will be able to walk away with a rare Shiny Larvitar, a Rock- and Ground-type Pokémon with unusual colouring. Players will need to bring along their copy of the Pokémon Black Version or Pokémon White Version game and their Nintendo DS™, Nintendo DSi™, Nintendo DSi XL™, or Nintendo 3DS™ system to receive this unique distribution.

This Shiny Larvitar knows the powerful Fighting-type move Superpower, which can only be learned in Pokémon HeartGold or Pokémon SoulSilver from a special tutor. It also comes holding a useful Chople Berry, which is difficult to obtain in the games. Larvitar can eventually evolve into Tyranitar, which, thanks to its strong stats and its Ability to kick up an unending Sandstorm, has been a very popular character since its introduction in Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version in 2000.

Game Freak director Junichi Masuda held a Q&A session at Tokyo's Pokemon Center this past Saturday. One fan asked him, "Please tell us some information about Black and White's sequel," to which he replied, "I can't answer that yet. Well, I can say to watch the next Pokemon Smash" (4:30 in the video below). A few hours later, he posted to his Twitter, "Please watch next week's Pokemon Smash live or check my Twitter!"

Are we going to get our "Pokemon Gray" announcement this week? The episode in question will air in Japan on Sunday, February 26th (this coming Saturday afternoon in America). Masuda's comments don't necessarily confirm that Pokemon Smash is going to reveal anything (he just says to watch the show in response to the fan), though no one can doubt his comment seems to be implying something will happen. Thanks goes to AAPF for researching this news story. Guess we'll find out soon if there will be an announcement! If it's not coming this week, it may be within the next month, as CoroCoro implied.

Today's episode of Pokemon Smash showed a short new teaser trailer for Kyurem vs. the Sacred Swordsman - Keldeo. The trailer shows Kyurem chasing Ash and Pikachu, who appear to be in some sort of train or mining vehicle within a cave. An extended trailer will probably be released soon. Thanks goes to Playerking95 from our forums for the heads up on this story!

"Battle Strength Deck Keldeo" will be released on April 20th in Japan and will come with 30 cards, damage counters, a coin, and a play guide. A deck box and sleeves featuring Keldeo will also be released at the same time. In March 2011, the Musketeer Trio each were in their own Battle Strength Deck, so now Keldeo joins them too. We'll post images and translations as soon as they are released!

Announcement in Next CoroCoro

CoroCoro magazine revealed in its current edition that next month's issue will contain something important. The teaser below says, "There will be a surprising announcement of more than Keldeo?!" Thanks goes to DorianBlack for the translation!

CoroCoro has a history of hyping unimportant information, but in this case, the statement could be referring to a new forme for Kyurem. The December and January editions hinted that Kyurem has an "unseen" power and that there is a secret to Kyurem's ice, both of which have yet to be revealed by the magazine. Additionally, we just discovered a placeholder for a Kyurem forme in Black and White's coding, meaning a new forme will more than likely exist. So now seems to be the appropriate time to reveal a new forme for Kyurem if it's going to get one, especially since it would be featured in the movie.

Anime artwork of Keldeo has also been released, as you can see below. It looks like its hooves have holes in them - that's how it shoots out its own water to glide across bodies of water. The first image below is of its full Ken Sugimori artwork.

Photos of CoroCoro magazine have leaked on to the Internet several days before its release, revealing Keldeo's full artwork, as you can see below. Keldeo is the fourth member of the Musketeer Trio, is known as the Colt Pokemon, and is a Water/Fighting type. Click the thumbnail below to enlarge it.

The magazine also revealed, as expected, that the 15th movie's full name is now Kyurem and the Sacred Swordsman - Keldeo. Now to wait a few months for Kyurem's new forme and a "Pokemon Gray" announcement... (speculation, of course).

Keldeo in CoroCoro

Black Pokedex Entry: By blasting water from its hooves, it can glide across water. It excels at using leg moves while battling.

White Pokedex Entry: It crosses the world, running over the surfaces of oceans and rivers. It appears at scenic waterfronts.

As predicted, the upcoming issue of CoroCoro will be revealing Keldeo, or at least its silhouette. You can see it on the magazine's front cover, pictured below. We'll post scans from the rest of the issue once they're leaked by the Japanese. Usually, they'd be leaked next week, so this is a bit early; as it stands, we're not 100% sure this is real, but we'll keep you posted. If it is real, Keldeo will obviously be starring in the 15th movie with the Musketeer Trio and Kyurem, who itself may be getting a new forme soon.

The EX Factor

With the release of Hail Blizzard and Psycho Drive in Japan (and soon to be officially released in the USA), our game as we know it is about to change a great deal. With these sets, the mechanic of "EX" Pokemon has been brought back, bringing along with it new factors to our meta game. Now, we don't know exactly how these cards will impact our meta game in States, Regionals, and beyond, but they are already making big waves in Japan. We won't know for sure what happens when EXs hit our meta game, but we can look at these cards, as well as their pros and cons to see how they could potentially revolutionize our game.
