Remember that really weird thread I made a while ago, Muscular Pokemon? Well, this is why. It's a new story called Close Combat. Here's the first chapter.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was a long walk, wasn’t it?” Jack panted as he walked to the city. Jack was really tired and it showed. Sweat poured out from his head and his clothes were pretty soaked. He just wanted to rest.

Jack was an 11 year old boy who was a Pokémon trainer. He had light brown hair that was cut fairly short. His brown glasses covered his hazel eyes. He was wearing a white collared shirt, black shorts, and white tennis shoes. Jack was averagely tall, but his only problem was that he was skinny and not very muscular, which bothered him.

Next to him, his partner Lucario nodded in agreement, though he didn’t look tired at all. Lucario looked like any other Lucario, with the same blue skin and black stripes over his eyes. Lucario was a pretty powerful Pokémon, but like his trainer, he wasn’t all that physically strong.

Jack and Lucario met the day before Jack became a Pokémon trainer. Jack was walking through the forest thinking about which Sinnoh starter he would choose when he heard a cry of pain. He rushed to the source and found a Riolu lying on the ground in a lot of pain. It had been attacked by a Ryhorn and lost badly. Jack picked him up and ran him all the way to the Pokémon center a mile away. From that day forward, Jack and Lucario had been great friends. Now they were at Veilstone City trying to get the next badge. Jack was confident that Lucario could stand up to the other Fighting type Pokémon that were there.

The two partners walked through the city streets looking for a hotel. Lucario didn’t like being in a Pokeball, and Jack didn’t mind. It gave him someone to talk to. Anyways, Jack and Lucario were looking at the different buildings when they noticed a certain one.

It was plain white building that was only one floor. It looked pretty big, but what Jack and Lucario noticed was the sign on top. It read, in big red letters: POKE – MUSCLE GYM: TRAIN WITH YOUR POKEMON. Jack was pretty happy about this. He’d always wanted to be stronger and more muscular, and Lucario was the same. It was one of the many similarities they shared. Without even realizing it, both of them nearly had their faces pressed up against the clear glass windows. Then, without warning, someone did press their face onto the windows.

A deep voice behind them laughed. Jack turned around and almost fainted. The laugh came from a huge man, probably a young adult. He had long black hair and HUGE muscles. Next to him was a Machoke. The Machoke looked pretty muscular, even for a Machoke. “What’s your name, shrimp?” the huge guy asked Jack as he loomed over him. “Uhhh…. Jack,” Jack stuttered, getting over his shock. “Well, Jack, I’m Wayne, and you look like you and your Lucario could really use this gym.” Wayne laughed again. Jack got kind of angry, but he didn’t show it out of fear. Next thing they knew, Jack and Lucario were being pushed through the doors by Wayne.

Inside, Jack and Lucario were even more astounded. There was exercise equipment as far as the eye could see. It looked like someone could exercise every muscle in their body there. Both were snapped out of their shock as Wayne pushed them toward a weight bench.

“Now, let’s see how much you two can lift,” Wayne said, putting 20 lbs. of weight on the metal bar. Not wanting to go against Wayne, Jack sat down on the bench. He picked up the bar and did some reps very easily before setting the bar down. “Well, let’s add on some more, shall we?” said Wayne as he put on 5 lbs. more weight. Jack sighed and picked up the bar again.
This repeated for a while until Jack got up to about 55 lbs. He tried to lift it up, but his arms struggle under the weight. Finally, he put the bar down. Wayne laughed again. “Pretty puny, don’t you think, Machoke?” he asked his Machoke. Machoke nodded and laughed along with Wayne. Jack sighed. He didn’t like being called puny.

“Now it’s time for your Lucario,” said Wayne as he set the weight back to 20 lbs. Lucario just got onto the bench and started lifting.

Lucario got up to 45 lbs. before he started struggling. Sweat poured out from his head as he tried to lift the bar, but he couldn’t. He set the bar down and got up. “Your Lucario isn’t that strong either,” Wayne said in a mocking tone. “You should work out more.”

Jack just sighed and walked out without another word.

Jack noticed that the sun was going down. That made him feel worse. “Looks like battling Maylene will have to wait until tomorrow,” Jack said to Lucario. Lucario nodded. It was too late to get a hotel, so they headed to the woods and set up camp. Soon the tent was set up, there was a fire going, and Jack and Lucario were lying in their sleeping bags.

“You know, Wayne made me pretty mad today,” Jack said, turning to Lucario in the bag. “It makes me feel bad to feel weaker, you know?” Lucario nodded. “Lu,” Lucario said. Jack was kind of surprised. That was the first thing that Lucario had said since they reached the city. While Jack was thinking about this, he and Lucario noticed something.

It was a shooting star, clearly streaking through the night sky. It appeared to have a clear silver glint. Jack was amazed. He had never seen one before. He knew that you were supposed to make a wish, so he closed his eyes and thought about what to wish for. The answer was obvious.

“I wish we were both stronger,” Jack wished. He turned to see that Lucario was watching the shooting star closely. “Well, uh, goodnight,” Jack said as he rolled over and went to sleep. Lucario followed soon after.
That night, their bodies began to change……
