Grumpigfarmer, what I do is I just go to Wikipedia's hiragana page and copy/paste from there. I'm not sure if it will work on your computer, but it should work. (The font for Japanese characters I think is default/automatic and should work right away.)

It is a bit tedious, yes, but it's how I managed to make stuff like this.

Is there any reason your banner has katakana written in it? I think it's supposed to be hiragana, since katakana is really only used for foreign words.
