Yeah, if you want a reasonably good one. It's hard to host a server not because one doesn't have decent hardware, but because one doesn't have a good upload speed; you'd need something like Google Fiber or Verizon FiOS (which safariblade had when his server was active) to even begin talking about running a server yourself. Else, you have to turn to a hosting company, and almost all charge a monthly fee (I believe Infinity pays $8 a month for his). There are some (as in like, one) free hosting companies that use advertising to get by, but those have a limited number of servers that people have to take turns using.
