It's more so understanding how cards interact with each other. For example:
Q: If I use Victini-EX's Turbo Energize, or Terrakion-EX's Pump-Up Smash, and attempt to attach Energy cards to a Sigilyph (with Safeguard), what happens?
A: The Energy cards get discarded.
A lot of this stuff pops up in the Compendium, to answer things that may be unclear. Some rulings even change, for example:
Q: If I play a Random Receiver, and the first card revealed is a Supporter, do I need to shuffle my deck?
A: You do now. You used to not do so.
BW-TCG is supposedly less complicated, but the wording has been dumbed down so much that there are now more questions, stupid or otherwise, than ever. The attempt to make the TCG simpler has just made lives worse.
It CAN be complicated, though with a thorough knowledge of the game state (honestly, a lot of questions like those are common sense, but some aren't), most questions are easily answered.
I could probably help with stuff about card matters, but if it involves answering questions on the Professor Exam, I'm afraid I can't comply (I could point you to where the answer is, maybe, but I can't give it to you directly.)
