Eagle4, Yes, my problem with smogon is with their design philosophy, there's no question about it, and there's no question that it's entirely my opinion.
I think the competitive aspects are the last step because whether or not a pokemon is deemed competitive is entirely up to smogon. The status of competitiveness is a natural process, as I said in the thread. Thousands of pokemon and moves battle and only a handful prevail. That's evolution, real evolution, and by that point it's completely outside of GF's control; they can influence the outtcome, certainly, pseudolegends and aurorus are a testament to that, but it's also up to the people using the pokemon. The variables in pokemon interactions are pretty much infinite, and the only way to know them is by practice.
You mention scizor and blissey. where does technician an bullet punch and sp def and cure moves not make sense in them? technician is about manual skill, something the scissors pokemon should have in spades (pun intended) and blissey was a tank since the days when its only remarkable move was softboiled, and it still fits. it doesn't learn barrier, or bulk up. because those moves doesn't fit blissey.
The problem with smogon's CAP (my problem) is that they're taking art and reducing it to science, just a sum of moves and abilities. And it applies to battles too; that natural evolution I mentioned is beautiful when you notice it; it's darwin's theory, nature developing in front of you, but when all the oponents are equal, it's less "survival of the fittest" and more "let's have world war 3 for shits and giggles".
