Well, there are no 1st party Nintendo games but there is a port of Megaman 2 that is actually very good. (But you MUST go into options and turn in landscape and classic mode on, otherwise it sucks) Other games you may like are Rayman 2, Simpson's Arcade if you like beat em ups, the Zenonia games...

I think some new attacks that required user input would be cool. Such as correct timing to get extra hits on moves like Bullet Seed and Double Kick to get more hits. This would take more luck factor out of the game, and make it more skill-based like the Mario RPGs. I'm not saying to copy them...
