I was playing someone else who had Donphan Prime active and Donphan Prime on his bench. They did Eartquake (10 to each of his bench) but he claimed ektoskelton prevented his benched Donphan from taking the damage. This can't be correct.

I was playing against someone and I had Spirtomb active (No Trainers). He played an Expert Belt and claimed that it was a Tool, not a Trainer. I disagreed with him, but he was sure and claimed he had asked a judge/professor. Can someone please help me on this ruling. Thanks
