News September's SM4 Set: 'The Awoken Hero' and 'The Transdimensional Beast'

It's in water. The planks would provide MORE opportunity to dodge since it can, you know, swim under them.

Discussion Does Dragon Need a Basic Energy Type?

Dragon is inherently a worse type. It doesn't hit anything for weakness, and uses multiple energy types. It requires more support than the average type for that reason. Also, the types you mentioned already have multiple support cards available to them. When the rotation hits, Dragon will have...

News August's English TCG Set: 'Burning Shadows'

That is pretty clearly just coincidence. Weakness Policy and Random Receiver are the only ones to be somewhat unexpected to begin with (the rest being pretty basic, staple-ish cards that have been printed in the BW era, XY era AND Sun/Moon era), and as you said, Rocky Helmet hasn't seen a...

Help Please Help Me Identify this Card!

Pretty clearly not an official foil job. The pattern isn't even CLOSE to anything that has ever been produced by Wizards of the Coast or Pokemon (and it looks like it's scratched), and even though it's hard to tell given the very strong, dark foil, the holo cards from that era still have the...

Help Base Set Cards in Standard

Note that Potion can only be used because it got an official, not-just-on-a-printed-card, errata. A card like Energy Retrieval or Full Heal that has functional differences from their current prints CAN'T be used otherwise. (Incidentally, VERY few cards have errata like this. The only...

News Japan's SM3+ Set: 'Shining Legends!'

You're kidding, right? This is the fourth, and that's including Ash's Pikachu GX, which probably shouldn't count. A good number of types have that many, and a couple have more. Only the smaller types like Dragon or Metal have less. I guess I could be reading more into this than I should given...

    News Worlds 2017 Details!

We got Champions Festival for a reason. Giving cards with such a huge gameplay impact as Tropical Beach in such a limited manner isn't good for the game. I'd expect something new (or something similar to an older Stadium that wouldn't be massively impactful on the game, like Battle Stadium or...

Discussion Does Dragon Need a Basic Energy Type?

Usually only with a new game (EX: FireRed & LeafGreen, Primal Clash and the like), though EX: Unseen Forces was a Johto-themed set out of nowhere, and we've had a few TYPE-themed sets over the years as well, like Dark Explorers or Roaring Skies.

Discussion Does Dragon Need a Basic Energy Type?

No, they don't need their own basic energy. It would make the type even more pointless than it already is. At least this way they can fit into decks that use other types of energy. Keep in mind nothing is weak to Dragon, so it's just a worse Colorless gameplay-wise. (I still disagree strongly...

Discussion Burning Shadows Unofficial and Partial Set List

Dragon is "newer" than Fairy as far as numbering's concerned. I guess they considered Dragon's absence from XY as it being discontinued, and then reintroduced in Flashfire. Colorless also goes after both. Not a massively on-topic post as far as this thread's concerned, but oh well. Thought it...

News New 'Battle Arena Deck: Black Kyurem vs. White Kyurem' in June!

And then there's the suckers like me that'll buy it for the Kyurems because he collects Ice-types. >.> (I'd assume their foil style differs from the pack ones, anyway, like previous Battle Arena decks.) Wonder if that Kyurem in the Black Kyurem is one of the two (three, but it's not going to be...

Help What Are All the Cards That Have Been Banned?

I suppose it doesn't mention exactly when they were banned, but eh. Those four and the current 2 (Trump Card and Shiftry) are the only cards that have ever officially been banned.

News Japan's SM3 Sets for the 20th Movie Feature Ho-Oh and Necrozma!

Actually, it's a direct update to a previous Rhyperior. Incidentally, I think that Rhyhorn may have my favourite art of any card. Certainly my favourite in a while at any rate. Not sure why, but I like it a lot. Maybe we just don't get enough happy Rhyhorn.

News Japan's SM3 Sets for the 20th Movie Feature Ho-Oh and Necrozma!

Clearly you're unfamiliar with sarcasm. ;p I actually like this thing's GX attack. 10 cards is a lot. It could potentially steal a game or two as a finisher. I just wish there were a better non-GX Charizard to go with it. I guess the Generations one could be worse, but still...

    Help Preventing Damage

Eviolite would be the best bet. It has more utility than Protection Cube since it also reduces damage from the opponent, and you're only doing 20 self-damage, so the amount it reduces to yourself is adequate for your purposes.

News New Legendary Battle Decks in September!

I'd guess probably Noble Victories Cobalion (it's better in this deck than the Emerging Powers one, and the Steam Siege one uses 2 Metal Energy for its damaging attack, making it unlikely here IMO), Flashfire Druddigon (it's a card I could see warranting a reprint, and it's the only good...

News Strengthening Expansion Pack, Best of XY Pack, and Ash VS Team Rocket Deck!

OK, I usually don't care about collecting cards because they look good, but... Damn, I need that Delinquent. Good art in general, but I don't especially care for any other than Delinquent, N and maybe Shauna. Hopefully Shaymin-EX remains Japan-exclusive. The rest I don't mind as much...

News Strengthening Expansion Pack, Best of XY Pack, and Ash VS Team Rocket Deck!

I feel like it's fairly likely we will still see the remaining Mega Pokemon-EX, actually. The fact Japan's had a couple of cards now that refer to both Pokemon EX and Pokemon GX is a pretty big deal. I wonder if M Heracross-EX and M Kangaskhan-EX will get Spirit Links. Because people totally...

News Strengthening Expansion Pack, Best of XY Pack, and Ash VS Team Rocket Deck!

I see this as a more powerful, but less versatile AZ. Which I like. AZ was a little too versatile for my liking (being guaranteed to be able to reuse things like Shaymin-EX or Decidueye-GX), but this is balanced by the fact you could just opt not to damage those kinds of Pokemon. Maybe it'll...

Collecting Seeking Advice as New Collector/Investor

Basic Energy typically don't have a Reverse Holo version. (Evolutions and Generations are the only sets that had Reverse Holo versions of Basic Energy. Well, and Call of Legends, but in that case, they ONLY came in Reverse.) Secret Rares, even Common/Uncommon ones such as Imakuni's Doduo from...
