A subtle discovery has been made about the holo Energy of Scarlet & Violet 151!
TPCi has printed the Energy on two different holofoil paper, giving the Energy two different looks. This distinction will be important to collectors. If you buy your packs from multiple sources, it’s possible the Energy in your binder won’t match.
As I initially reported, one paper is what fans often call “galaxy” or “cosmos” holofoil. This classic holofoil was used in English sets from 2000’s Base Set 2 through the final set of the Diamond & Pearl era in 2011. It continued to be used on promo cards until the middle of the Black & White era. It then made a...

I agree that the HD Galaxy foil is probably just leftover stock, so though they look worse they'll probably be more valuable.

But yeah the original is so much prettier. It helps that it also makes the Pokemon stand out from the background. That's probably not as important anymore but back in the day when the backgrounds were a lot simpler it really helped for sure.

I would have NEVER known that there were two versions of the Galaxy holofoil until I read this story. In true nostalgia fashion, the original DOES clear over the HD remake by quite a few miles!

(Also, since people forgot their reading glasses on the Van Gogh story, I'll say it here that the new Pikachu promo might just be about the most random and coolest TCG story of this whole year!)

Neither, now I will be actively looking for it haha! I will have to see which I prefer more.

Also, I would have preferred to have seen the Smeargle become the promo; or, something based on Cafe Terrace at Night.

I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but thank you for not continuing to imply some kind of proprietary relationship between this style of holofoil and WOTC. It had been irking me for a while.
It's the same holographic foil that they used in Japan originally. So it's pretty clear that Wizards didn't own it. It was just they weren't buying it

You really couldn't tell? It was immediately obvious to me as soon as they switched over during black and white. I never really cared much for it except that it is better than the other holographic foil. The contrast with the original cosmo is so much nicer

Ah! I knew something was "off" with my holo energy when the swirl was not the familiar pixelgalaxy and instead looked like a bayblade.
Man. Wished they would finally stock the 6 booster boxes in germany! I want to get my mittens on them foils for old times sake

It's also worth noting that the drop rate of holo energy from 151 is insanely high.

I opened 209 packs (3 blisters with 3 packs each, an ETB with 20 packs, and 10 mini boxes with 18 packs each). Note that I live in Brazil, and we have packs with only 6 cards in them, and you can get a pack as bad as having 3 commons, 2 uncommons, and a reverse that can be as low as a common. Ended up with about 20 foil energies, so around 1 every 10 packs give or take. Didn't pay too much attention to the patttern after a point, gonna take a closer look tomorrow.

OK, but it wasn't immediately obvious to everyone, and they were designed to look similar. I agree the original is nicer, but at the same time, lay off a bit.

both are still cool tho

Building a Master set for this seems like an absolute Nightmare
Why would you want to lol? Like literally, if you try this, you need to touch grass
[The ppls who buy the grass flops (yes those are real)]

I think you might have been misreading a hostility into my post that wasn't intended let alone present.
