“Obsidian Flames” Prerelease Promos Revealed!

Pichu, months.

The babies that got printed at the end of the SM era, years.

The ones that didn't, approaching decades.

Cleffa is an easy starting point for them because it does what Cleffa always does (draw cards). Hard to see how they will make this concept usable when they have like 15 babies to cover (not including the three that are treated like regular Pokemon i.e. Togepi, Riolu and Toxel) and none of them evolve or probably have HP above 30. But they shouldn't let a lack of playability stop them from trying!

I expected palafin to be impossibly busted in some way/shape/form, and severely dissapointed in the fact that is garbage. I mean, you can't just make a BST of 650 and a good signature move then not make it meta.
The inevitable ex will probably be better.

togekiss looks like a really fun card to use, but unfortunately since iono is going to be absolutely everywhere, it's hard to take advantage of an ability like precious gift when hand disruption is one of the defining parts of today and tomorrow's meta. will still probably see some niche, though, because drawing until you have 8 is inherently very good.

maybe i'm overhyping the card, but palafin has to have at least some use in some deck. it's very high maintenance and will require a bunch of switch cards, but 210 for 2 energy and no drawback is too nice to look away from.

mawile looks to be a really good card, but it kinda sucks that reversal energy got introduced just for a card like mawile to enter rotation soon

We are getting pre release promos of an upcoming set when the ”curent” set isn’t even officially released…

Japan needs to sync up with the rest of the world to fix this mess.
How bout the US needs to step up in delivering faster transitions. I don't see why we need to wait so long for simple translations of cards. I mean, i get that there is the printing and physical pack production but makes no sense to delay the Live platform where new sets released from Japan should be readily if not, over 48 hours available on Live.. ?‍♂️?‍♂️

Why is that a problem? Why does it matter that we know a few cards before they are revealed for Japan?
It's not common for cards to be revealed this early, we only got the promos for Paldea Evolved one week before the pre-releases start.

That makes 0 sense from a player perspective. Players would then be playing a whole different format in Live than the one from actual tournaments. How do you train for irl play that way? Live is clearly meant as a platform for players to test decks, it's no wonder why they have made cards so easily available.

This is one of the things I like the most about multiprizers evolving from regular cards again, how you can mix and match the evo lines. For instance, if at any time in the future Safeguard becomes a real consideration, you can just have one or two of the regular one in the list for you to be able to deal with it.

Is that too challenging for you? Do you need to copy tournament lists to win games in Live? Test deck lol. If you are a tournament player, wouldn't you want to test out the new cards before they get released physically for the real turnament battle? Sounds like pretty sad excuses for being unproductive and lazy.. ?‍♂️ ?

What in the world is this even responding to?

The dude is asking “why would a simulator for the current available market of cards in a region would incorporate sets not due for up to several months?” and how that does not help with tournament practice. You allow players to earlier test a new format, but most competitive players won’t care to do that until they are done going through tournaments in the current format, which can be as late as after the official release of a new pack even. They are going to invest their time into whatever their next event is above all.

This would only benefit players who play very few tournaments or have no tournaments on their mind.

You also introduce the possibility of confusing newcomers on what the current standard format actually is as a potential downside, especially knowing that PTCGL has enough trouble supporting what it currently has.

Maybe if PTCGL wasn’t a mess and could support multiple formats and handled releasing those cards well, it would work as an option, but it doesn’t benefit competitive players that attend more events, and this is so far down the list of things PTCGL needs to update that the devs should not be worried about it.

Thing is, that tournaments don't even use the new set until 2 weeks after release. So you rather want to play the current more important format in Live, reflecting the real meta, instead of an weird format nobody cares about or can even play outside of japan.

And when the new set releases, you have two weeks to prep for the next tournament. Which is enough.
