We can reveal this year’s special holiday set will release on Friday, September 22nd! We previously speculated it would release in late September.
The first wave of products will include an Elite Trainer Box, Poster Box, Binder Collection, Booster Bundle, and Poke Ball Tins. No product descriptions are available yet.
Previously we also reported on Mini Tins, ex Boxes, and an Ultra Premium Collection; these and other products will presumably release over the following months. You can only get booster packs for special sets within designated products, and the releases are always staggered across a few months.
We don’t know the name of our set yet, but it will obviously feature the cards from Japan’s...

Are Mew ex & Alakazam ex gonna be viable in meta?

So what AR do we think will be cut for etb(pikachu maybe) and box promos, we know mew is getting cut for the ultra premium collection.

I think they'll cut the ar basic starters for their own individual products.

Gardevoir and Baxcalibur would like a word
they are different because of their amazing ability. Alakazam only attack 120 damage and Manaphy can protect bench :) if Diancie could protect him from boss then that could change but Diancie only protect basic

I could totally see the Kadabra or Snorlax being cut for ETB. A leaked Mew ultra premium collection has been floating around so I'm assuming a SIR of Mew ex will be cut for that.

That's my birthday!!! And this set contains the first special art of my favorite Pokemon. Really excited for this one, it's likely the only set I'll buy this year.

People are talking about Alakazam ex and it’s viability. Here is the deal:

Alakazam is solid. Nothing overly impressive, but some tricky stuff.

Gardevoir ex is one of the most powerful cards ever printed, comparing the Gardevoir ex and Alakazam ex is foolish.

Baxcalibur has 4 important atributes that helps it being viable as a stage 2 Pokémon that Alakazam doesn’t.

1. Baxcalibur is a 1 prize Pokémon. That means it is inefficient in prize trade to boss it up for KO.

2. Baxcalibur has acces to Irida which helps it a lot to get a t2 or t3 rare candy combo.

3. Baxcalibur's Basic evolution has 70 Hp which helps against Sableye. Alakazam is not as fortunate.

4. Even if you don’t get out Baxcalibur t2, you can still get a t2 KO with Palkia or Chien-Pao. Alakazam ex does not have a similar attacker.

Alakzam ex also has darkness weakness which means it will not be to difficult to OHKO it for any deck that plays Umbreon Vmax or Drapion V.

Once Alakazam ex has set up, it wont win the game in 2 turns. It will take several turns.

Alakzam ex can however set up irritating Pokémon in the active spot such as Klefki, Diancie or Mimikyu which can buy time in early/mid/late game.

But none are enough to carry Alakazam ex to a great matchup spread

Overall, Alakzam will be played in tournaments with limited succes due to power and consistency issues. But it has a great gameplan that decks will struggle to deal with if things go in Alakazam's favour.

It is most likely comparable to Palkia Vstar in the Battle Style - Scarlet Violet Base format

Really wish they'd just do booster boxes for special sets, there's only so much tat and useless extras one can tolerate.

See, I don't care that they don't do booster boxes for special sets; however, I am always annoyed that the releases are staggered. Look at Crown Zenith and Celebrations, by the time the last few waves were released everyone had everything and it was more worthwhile just buying singles at that point.

in my dreams they would make the starter evolution ex art rares into promos too so i could ever have a chance of affording them lol

I'm super interested to see how they name this set in English & other languages - if it were up to me, I'd call it The Kanto Collection so then if they decide to continue with 251, 386, etc. in the future, they could just call it The Johto Collection, The Hoenn Collection, and so on

Dude chill my only point was that the guy I replied to wrote it off solely because it’s a Stage 2, I never said it was gonna be Tier 1 lmao
