Nerd Time.Something that annoys me is how much of a downgrade the English Stellar Tera ex cards are compared to the Japanese ones. Like... why did they get rid of the holo on the Pokémon and on the border too? And then despite that, every Prismatic Evolutions SIR is 10 times the price of its Japanese counterpart.
I wonder what msrp will be.... just so i know what to expect on ebay.... i would love to get this for my daughter....Beautiful playmat. Definitely terrified for this product tho lol gonna cause even more chaos for sure
Ewww, gross. No wonder people started getting sick of newer full art cards -- they got worse over time! And also it isn't just me that Gen 6 full arts look better than newer ones. It's also not out of the question that they might get rid of textures entirely to save money, since they saw how much people love regular Illustration Rares like Magikarp and Groudon and how much demand there is for them. The insulting part is that the textures and patterns are better in English than in Japanese for other games, such as Weiss Schwarz and especially Union Arena.Nerd Time.
The downgrade is the result of english cards being on half as many offset embossing rollers compared to Japanese cards. Its an effective cost cutting method for millennium print group of North Carolina. They have to print for all English speaking countries including Singapore even though they also get simplified and traditional Chinese cards now form Japan. Being cheaper to produce means dramatically faster production time, they can get cards processed for make ready in half the time Japanese cards take. Even with these cutbacks, MPG NC cannot maintain capacity, they are trying but struggling.
Gen 6 cards for English and Japanese both had the same texturing depth and patterns. This was the point at which MPG if NC could keep up with demand for English speaking countries. By gen 7 demand was quickly outpacing production, so they cut the texturing back to 80% of Japan but still kept the same patterns. Gen 8 cut it back even more to 70% and altered the patterns to be a bit more simplified, and Gen 9 is half the depth of Japanese textured cards with half the patterns.
If mpg can’t keep up with the demand im afraid gen 10 won’t even be textured or have patterns at all, they will go back to the cheap striped holo patterns from black and white era. I really hope that doesn’t happen.

Full arts definitely got stale over time especially with gen 7 and 8 overusing rainbow rares and full arts sharing the exact same portrait and holo pattern.Ewww, gross. That said, the textures on the Stellar Tera cards are (mostly) fine, relatively speaking. I mean that the Japanese SAR's and full arts have the rainbow borders and Pokémon in full holofoil, whereas the English ones do not.
Which is, if what this article says is true, really ironic considering that Nintendo let their Pokémon TCG license with WTOC expire due to the latter treating it exactly like MTG.Some companies try to maintain consistency with products across regions even if they’re Japanese based. Pokemon however is not one of those companies any more. The Japanese market and English market are similar but different. Japan’s core target audience is more for teens to young adults. Collecting and battling in tournaments is a 50/50 split over there, Pokemon operates like MTG does over here .
