“Scarlet ex” and “Violet ex” Sets Officially Revealed!

Why is everyone getting so on edge about powercreep? Compared to the cards that have been printed recently, this isn't anything special

Zacian V and Zamazenta V were already 2-prize basics with 220/230 HP, printed 3 years ago. We've had what are essentially 280 HP Stage 1 Pokemon for almost a year- they're called Pokemon VSTAR. And, in general, I'd rather give up an extra prize for my VMAX instead of having a more inconsistent deck stuffed full of Rare Candies for a Stage 2 ex.

Pros:
-The new energy cards look great
-Return to the mid 2010s EX art style

Cons:
-MASSIVE power creep…330hp EX that only gives up 2 prize cards is insane. I remember when Zapdos/Moltres/Articuno Tag Team was 300hp and people lost it over how huge that was. VMAX territory was 300hp+ and they at least gave up 3 prize cards
-English Elite Trainer boxes probably won’t get those neat damage counters or special condition markers

All in all I’m excited for the new series. Time for something new!

From what it looks like the 330 hp ex cards are the stage 3 or second evolution of a much more basic Pokémon. It will require a minimum of three turns to go from magnemite to magneton to magnezone. Or some good set up with magnemite, incense or a ball, and a rare candy. Which should be plenty of time for faster decks to just bosses order the first stages out and KO them. I almost guarantee that the bigger HP ex will be to slow. High risk high reward sort of deal.
