I get that art is subjective and this style may not be for everyone but I personally love this set. The cartoony style, the pokemon they chose, the theme it's one of my favorite sets of all time. So for everyone disappointed sorry but I'm so happy.
I agree! I think that the art in this set is amazing. I absolutely love some of those ARs, like the Meowth and the Wobbuffet.I get that art is subjective and this style may not be for everyone but I personally love this set. They are in Destined Rivals, they are not in The Glory of Team Rocket. Y'all need to learn the diference between international and japanese releases.Yea, that’s what had me hoping for SAR Metagross!
I know they’re deck-only in Japan, but we are getting their Pokemon too in Destined Rivals according to the set abbrevs on the bottom left. That’s a lot of cards to squeeze into one set!
Knowing now that Metagross SAR is less likely is kinda disappointing, but oh well, at least I know now I don’t have to financially plan for it.
Not weird at all. Japanese deck products usually end up in our sets (Sylveon ex/Ceruledge ex, Mewtwo ex/Skeledirge ex, Inteleon VMAX/Gengar VMAX, etc).Weird choice, but still - those two were meant to be deck only in Japan. I never expected to see more.
Yes, their numbers match our predictions, so they should be in it.There are some decent art rares here but the same was said of Journey Together, I assume that Destined Rivals will probably end up in the boat pending any amazing screw-ups by TPCi regarding production.
Armored Mewtwo is an anime-only thing, expecting Creatures Inc. to incorporate that into a set that clearly takes its design cues from the games is asking a bit much.
That’s only for international sets (and even then I’m not 100% sure the numbers we’ve been given allow for SAR Marnie’s Pokémon and Steven’s Pokémon to be included in the set proper), in Japan they’re part of the ex Starter Set decks that are considered two separate products with one Illustration Rare print of either Marnie’s Morpeko or Steven’s Beldum and we’re getting a similar product internationally.
I know that Steven and Marnie’s Pokemon are not in TGoTR (due to the exclusivity of the decks) but in Destined Rivals, so yes I know the difference. They are in Destined Rivals, they are not in The Glory of Team Rocket. Y'all need to learn the diference between international and japanese releases.
It's not "less likely", it's just impssible that they would give SIRs in a regular main set for cards that are not part of any japánese set. As others have mentioned, the only way those could get a special illustration is in a High Class Set, which os Japan's annual end of the year set (and now ours beginning of the year counterpart).
That Night Wanderer/Shrouded Fable Houndoom AR/IR were absolutely astounding. I could not ask for better. This generation has been very kind to Houndoom fans (me) after SWSH's extremely disappointing TG Houndoom
To split it like that is what I meant. Not weird at all. Japanese deck products usually end up in our sets (Sylveon ex/Ceruledge ex, Mewtwo ex/Skeledirge ex, Inteleon VMAX/Gengar VMAX, etc).
I honestly think the Moltres Sar is the best one, the Rocket's Mewtwo is a total letdown. No Rockets Mimikyu AR, also a huge letdown. The AR's are wayyy better than the SARs imo. Oh well...still a cool set, just not nearly as good artwise for the SARs as I think we all were hoping.
Best set identity is Shrouded Fable. No second set to muddy the waters. As for hits lineup, you could be right thereYou're right, it's a $300+ box set at release. Literally the best set identity and hits lineup since Evolving Skies.
Chance it could be in end of year special set. Similar to the deoyxs and zeraora vmax set. They got alt arts eventually. Genger and diancie could get them in end of year set aswellI know that Steven and Marnie’s Pokemon are not in TGoTR (due to the exclusivity of the decks) but in Destined Rivals, so yes I know the difference.
But even so, if they were to just release the Metagross and Grimmsnarl SARs without the other Pokemon, that’d be just two more cards added to the Japanese set, so I hope you understand that, before the total cards were counted, why I was still having hope there (not to mention that Steven and Metagross are my favourite).
There was literally no reason to expect that they would have SARs in this set. They have never done that and would not do it now just because.I know that Steven and Marnie’s Pokemon are not in TGoTR (due to the exclusivity of the decks) but in Destined Rivals, so yes I know the difference.

Noted, thanksThere was literally no reason to expect that they would have SARs in this set. They have never done that and would not do it now just because.
It would have been pretty cool, though.Noted, thanks
Akira Egawa drawing awful cards is a really hot take
I don't think your take was a "hot" one at all. I think it was well described and I honestly agree with most of what you said. The Moltres card took me a minute to figure out what I was even looking at. It looks okay, but it's too much hitting my senses at the same time, and not in a good way.Again, my list and everything I say is just my personal opinion.
But to clarify on what I like and don't like about Akira Egawa. I own 3 of their cards in my personal collection. Chi-Yu SIR, Giratina V from Crown Zenith and Mew VMAX Alternate Art from Fusion Strike. I like all these cards because they feature their Pokemon on a beautifully landscaped background that fits the theme of the card. Chi-Yu is serene, Giratina moving down the tree base like a dragon creeping on the world tree or Mew just abusing their size to cause chaos around a London themed city.
When Akira Egawa draws close ups of Pokemon, it loses what I like about his work. That is exactly what this card does for me.
