(1) BW4 'Dark Rush' Officially Revealed [10/7]

Of course the ability doesn't stack and of course, it still requires a coin flip! Why do people like to see things that aren't there?

Because their theorymon sucks.

Ability: Burning Scales
As long as this Pokemon is in play, place 4 damage counters on the opponent's Burned Pokemon between turns.

The Ability doesn't say to put 4 damage counters instead of 2. It simply says to put 4 damage counters in between turns, which would imply that the player would also flip for Burn damage.

Perhaps the translation needs clarification, but as it is stated, stacking should be possible.

There's nowhere in that ability that indicates it stacks. If it says to put 4 damage counters, that means it's 4 instead of 2. It doesn't say 4 more.

If anyone thinks that Ability stacks, they're reading it wrong.

Well, see, that's the thing. There's always confusion about this because it doesn't state the fact that there's a coin flip involved and it doesn't state that it doesn't stack.

Yes, but it doesn't state in the card text that a coin flip is involved, which causes confusion (no pun intended). That's why some of us haven't learned from, as you said, Grumpig LA and Magmortar Lv.X.

...and now I know all of the people who cause me grief at Battle Roads by asking the judges a ton of silly questions that should be plainly obvious what the answers are, but for some reason, they don't pick up on it.

Ability: Burning Scales
As long as this Pokemon is in play, place 4 damage counters on the opponent's Burned Pokemon between turns.

Actually, this translation, although probably incorrect, does literaly states that if the opponent is burned, place 4 damage counters on them between turns. It says nothing of doing 4 INSTEAD of 2. It also says that if THIS pokemon is in play, place 4, so yes, according to this translation, it is stackable.
However, I don't believe this is the correct translation, and if it is, it should be interpreted like Grumpig or Magmortar X.

I agree with Nizolka33; this is probably an incorrect/incomplete translation and should actually say something like Full Flame or other similar cards: "Place 4 damage counters instead of 2 on your opponent's Burned Pokemon between turns."

Without the "instead of 2," confusion is inevitable.

^ Not just confusion, but STACKING.

No Resistance on this one either. :/

I think the ability is translated wrong--it's too good to be true.

I beat Larvesta will have a burn attack.

if it is an auto 4 counters for burn plus a flip for burn in between turns this will be crazy

on a different note PIPLUP!!! yay
*hive fives* Yay for another Stage 2 Water type! lol

Let's hope the Chimchar and Turtwig lines are in here as well. :D

You guys doubt Bangiras? :p

I don't even see a 2 in the card text. http://www.pokemon-card.com/campaign/bw4_box/images/index-fig-01.jpg
A Japanese blog wrote out the text like this (it's shorter than the actual card text, so it might be abbreviated): このポケモンがいるかぎり、あいてのやけどポケモンは、やけどでのせるダメカンが4つになる.
Google translate: As long as this Pokemon, Pokemon burns with love, will put in four burn damage

Regardless, I'll ask her to double-check when I see her online.

Is it me or are these sets now getting smaller and smaller? Usually a set contains over 100 cards and this set has 69 cards. Although this set will be a good set as all new sets usually are XD.:)

@WPM
このポケモンがいるかぎり、相手のやけどポケモンは、ポケモンチェック
のときにせるやけどでのダメカンの回が4つになる。

Pretty sure Zanto abbreviated. This is a combination of his transcription and some serious squint-o-vision. It's still not 100%, the images are just too small to really get the most accurate transcription. The biggest part missing really was the ポケモンチェック+ ダメカンの回が sections if I read the card correctly. I await Bangiras' verdict, since I have a basic idea of what the lingo is alluding to.

@xxashxx
It's the largest BW set we've had thus far in Japan. Japanese sets often cap out at 90 at largest most of the time.

You gotta love how they gave Volcarona, who has base 100 speed in the video games a 3 retreat, while Ferrothron, who has 20 base speed, got retreat cost of two.

Terrakion, who has a base speed of 108, making him tied for 3rd fastest Pokemon in Unova, got 4 retreat, the highest in the format. Ethough he has the same speed as the other musketeers, he has 3 retreat more than Virizion and 2 more than Cobalion. Explain that one.

Bangiras said this: "The ability has you place 4 damage counters for the Burn. It isn't 4 free damage counters. I guess you could say, 'As long as this Pokemon is in play, place 4 damage counters on your opponent's Burned Pokemon for Burn damage between turns.'"

So if you have four volcarona out, and the opponent is burned. Then they flip a tails, will that do 160 damage?

^Seriously??? I don't play, I just collect cards and even I understand the tcg rules better than you guys!!!
No! What the ability does is this: Say the defending pokémon is burned and the opponent flips a coin to check if the pokémon gets burn damage between turns. If the coin flip results in tails, instead of 2 damage counters, the burned pokémon takes 4 damage counters. That's it! Nothing else. Even if you have 4 Volcarona, it will always be just 4 instead of 2... Just like the Full Flame stadium as some people already said...
