(1) Charizard and Blastoise from 'Boundaries Crossed' [9/26]

Interesting, it looks like we'll be getting a number of cards from the National Beginning Set that I wasn't necessarily expecting...

Presumed set list up to #31:

1 Oddish
2 Gloom
3 Vileplume
4 Bellossom
5 Tangela
6 Tangrowth
7 Scyther
8 Heracross
9 Celebi EX
10 Combee
11 Vespiquen
12 Shaymin
13 Snivy
14 Servine
15 Serperior
16
17
18 Charmander
19 Charmeleon
20 Charizard
21 Numel
22 Camerupt
23 Victini
24 Tepig
25 Pignite
26 Emboar
27 Darumaka
28 Darmanitan
29 Squirtle
30 Wartortle
31 Blastoise

With 16 and 17 being filled with by either Cottonee's family, Petlil's family, or possibly more likely, Combee's family is cut and they all get pushed up a wee bit. It's also possible that Heracross and Shaymin are both cut, and all three of the above family's are included, but I think this is more likely...

Does anyone think Charizard will be viable at all?

If only Venusaur made it in this set instead of Dark Explorers. All 3 Kanto starters in one set would be awesome.

del·uge
   [del-yooj, -yoozh, del-ooj, -oozh, dih-looj, -loozh] noun, verb, del·uged, del·ug·ing.
noun
1.
a great flood of water; inundation; flood.
2.
a drenching rain; downpour.
3.
anything that overwhelms like a flood: a deluge of mail.
4.
the Deluge. flood ( def. 3 ) .

Now it makes sense.

...The name "Deluge" sounds much cooler than "Rain Dance". I personally like this change.

Blastoise, my favorite Pokemon, will undoubtedly change the metagame after the set is released because of its Base Set-esque ability; maybe I'll play again if someone lends me a deck! :p
You liar; you said you quit =P

Aw, WPM, you can borrow a deck from me any day.

When I first saw the news story I got all excited because I thought it was the shinies coming to America already. Keeping up with Japanese releases has brought me too far ahead of myself.

I would really love to make a Blastoise deck.

EFF YEAH BLASTOISE!!! I'm not to concerned by the name of the ability, but I might make a deck with a 4-4-4 blastoise line just for fun because I don't think it could be wicked competitive :p

Blastoise is definitely going to be game changing, we'll finally be able to have playable water type decks again (CaKE was too short lived) not to mention this it isn't weak to lighting meaning A) zeels will have a harder time against it and B) Shaymin EX just found a new best friend, which will of course make things interesting...

I have to say, I'm rater disappointed about charizard, he has really strong attacks and good HP, but they cost so-much-energy. Maybe I could see him in a Eel/Charizard/Rayquaza Rouge or an Emboar/Charizard deck (2 stage 2's :( ) but I think it will never be much more than a rouge without good basic/stage 1 fire acceleration, not to mention it's weak to blastoise too...

What about Charizard/Celebi? You use your mammoth HP to spam Charmeleon's attack, and use Charmander's attack to charge up a Scorching Fire if needed.

Herp, forgot Sewaddle's line, so this isn't all accurate. Worth noting that the only way the fire types can be filled up is with National Beginning Set cards, unless we get some cards early. Carry on ;)

I suppose that could work (I forgot that celebi EX is around, so that's actually fairly decent)

you can also use Giant Cape to increase your HP to EX levels, with a damage cap of 220. and with charmander's draw in, you can play max potion without fear too... The only problem I can see with the deck is you're going to have to evolve manually to make charmelon work, meaning you wont be doing alot of damage until t3 at the soonest.

Man these cards look better than the Japanese counterpart. Cool XD.:)

Rain Dance sounded SO much better. =\

The problem is that Blastoise's Ability here isn't called Rain Dance. It even has a different effect. Look:
Great Feraligatr (HS1)
Blastoise (CF)

ばくりゅう is better translated "Bursting Stream" or as Bulbapedia put it "Streaming Waterfall". Either way, you have the idea of a rushing flow of water...which is what a deluge is.

あまごい , the name for the attack "Rain Dance" (and is also the name of the Poke-Power) is translated as "praying for rain", which is really what a rain dance is.

Blastoise is still the spiritual successor to Rain Dance, but the effects and names are clearly different and distinct. I think "Deluge" is an accurate and fitting name.
Seriously guys, there's no need to whine about names. It's like you people complaining about "Inferno Fandango" all over again, when that name was really a unilateral improvement.
