(1) Genesect Wi-Fi Event Starting October 7th [9/7]

Here's my theory on why they are being released so early. TPC/TPCi is either planning one of two things:

  • Generation 6 is coming soon (you have to remember that they still haven't released a main game for the 3DS yet)
  • Ruby/Sapphire remakes are coming soon (to keep Gen V lasting longer)

In terms of Meloetta, we should be getting her soon (I hope)...her cards are going to be in Boundaries Crossed so we need to have an official reveal before Novermber.

We've had cards taken out of sets before and put into later ones to fit in with the movie coming out. In fact, some sets were flat-out moved around; EX Deoxys was delayed for the release of the 7th movie, Destiny Deoxys. No guarantees that Meloetta is in Boundaries Crossed.

They're not going to edit her out of the anime though, and she appears in a month.

They have no choice but to reveal it soon.

But the real question here is why Genesect was revealed before Meloetta.
I'm thinking it's TPCi's scheme to get more people to watch the anime--"Tune in to Pokemon BW: Rival Destinies this weekend to catch a glimpse of a brand-new Pokemon!" or something like that.

There giving away Genesect this early? Why do they want to rush through and end the awesomeness that is Gen 5? Or maybe there getting ready for Pokemon gray....In which case that would be awesome!

Because of the 3DS. They need to make a main series Pokemon game on the 3DS and they can't do that until Gen 5 is done. So they rush out all their legendary Pokemon in the course of about 3 months.

If Gen 6 comes out next year this time, it'll be the longest a system, GameBoy aside, has had to wait for a new Pokemon game. Also, keep in mind, Pokemon moves systems. They want it out there asap.

This is surprising, especially considering that we all thought Meloetta was going to be revealed before Genesect. TPCi is confusing sometimes.
Well I'll certainly be getting it!

Furthermore, what’s with the rush to get the fifth generation over so quickly?

It's called the 3DS.
They're trying to get 5 done and over with. So they can get on with their pretty new Gen Six 3DS engine.
I'd bet money on it. This whole Generation's been rushed. Think about it, no 3D Battler, No Storage Expansion, and you can bet there will be no Ruby, Sapphire Remake either.
Pokemon desperately needs to catch up. The next gen Nintendo Handheld as been out for well over a year now.
And there's simply no chance they'd ever release a Fifth Generation game on the 3DS.

Exactly. This entire Generation was nothing but filler, something to tide us over while Game Freak toils away at Generation VI for the 3DS. With Generations traditionally spanning only one console it's fairly easy to see that B2W2 is the end of the cycle.

There won't be RSEmakes this Generation to drag it on either, that's fairly obvious now. Game Freak will revisit Hoenn in due time, but I'm beginning to doubt they'll even be true remakes (in the sense that FRLG and HGSS are remakes). Now that Game Freak's dabbled in sequels, I'm thinking there's a high probability we'll instead see entirely new games set in Hoenn. Generation V progresses the timeline and I don't see them jumping backwards again. A progression of Hoenn's story allows these new games to be relevant to Generation VI and not throw us back in line with Generation III. Who knows, though.

Fantastic! The sooner all of the Gen V event monsters are revealed, the sooner we'll get a sixth-gen Pokémon reveal. Even if the actual games aren't released for a couple more years (though I doubt it would take quite that long), Munchlax was revealed in 2004, a good year and a half prior to DP. Then again, the Zoroark silhouette was shown earlier in the year of the BW release...could that cycle repeat itself?

Regardless, like many of you, I'm curious as to when Meloetta willbe revealed/distributed.

I'd go out to GameStop just to get a legitimate copy of that beautiful woman.
Seriously.
Distribute her, there's no excuse, TPCi or whatever we're calling that now >:I

Firstly, I don't think the entire generation was filler... But they did blaze through all the new Pokèmon entirely too quickly not to have some secret plan of action.I don't it's too likely that were getting Remakes or anything like that now and the chances of pokèmon gray happening have drastically decreased due to B2W2 in fact you might just say there's nothing left in Gen 5 =(. Oh..well There goes my favorite gen time to move onward to Gen 6!

Calling an entire generation filler is outrageously absurd. But, like many others, my guess is that they're rushing the event legendaries because gen VI comes right next year, and the next movie, featuring Genesect, will probably feature a gen VI pokémon too, otherwise they wouldn't reveal Genesect until then.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that since Gen V is such a parallel to Gen I, Gen VI will be to Gen V what Gen II was to Gen I...

Probably, what would they nane those? GOGOGO Pokemon ORANGE AND BROWN :p
LOL. I think they should call them "Pokemon Pink Version", "Pokemon Orange Version", and "Pokemon Brown Version". Thumbs up to Nintendo for giving us Genesect on Black/White 2 release date.

It's over Wi-Fi, thankfully.

Yeah, it's really interesting how narrow the gaps between Japan and NA are getting with events. Crazy. Here's hoping they're also distributing it to BW1.

xD Oops... Then, that's awesome news!

/me needs to quit mixing up GameStop and GameSpot and pay closer attention.

I suppose the word filler comes off a bit harsh to some people, seeing as it can have a negative connotation. I've enjoyed Generation V plenty, and by no means am I using the word to say that these games have lacked quality, were rushed etc, etc. But they're still filler.

Game Freak stated in early BW interviews that they concluded early on that the DS would require two sets of main series games and two groups of new Pokemon. The console's lifespan was too large to go the traditional "one generation per console" route. Therefore, they would need to create new games to fill the time between the end of Generation IV and the 3DS era.

They had to end Generation V with more than two games, so we got B2W2 on the DS to keep the generation on the same family of systems (but with features to still encourage 3DS sales). The 3DS has now been out well over a year now in all territories and it's time to move on, so out the event legendaries are rolling. It's also worth mentioning that the anime staff's mentioned BW would be their shortest series yet, further cementing that it's always been meant to move quickly in order to get onto what's next as soon as they could.

As to your idea of Generation VI being a parallel of Generation II, it's certainly possible. I thought it would be for the longest time, too. However, with the announcement of sequels instead of the anticipated Grey I started thinking that instead of paralleling Generation II, Generation VI would be more like III or IV. That's because Generation V is now kind of a parallel of Generation I and II in and of itself, Gold and Silver were originally titled Pocket Monsters 2 at one point, after all. Dogasu from Dogasu's Backpack was thinking the same thing, he brought it up on his site shortly after the games were unveiled.

There are a couple of interesting things I noticed about these games that makes me think Game Freak isn't done with the Generation I callbacks that they started doing with the original Black & White. One, these two games will give Generation V four non-remake main series games, the same number of games Japan had back in Generation I. Two, I'm thinking the way they simply added a "2" to the titles of these two DS games is a reference to the original Pocket Monsters 2, the working title for Pocket Monsters Gold and Pocket Monsters Silver.

It wouldn't be a complete parallel, but I think it'd be fair to say there might only be 100 new Pokemon.

Agreed. Odd-numbered gens tend to introduce more Pokémon, so the even-numbered gens that follow are usually smaller. I think there's more than a good chance Gen VI will introduce around 100 Pokémon, especially since Gen V was so large.

Maybe the whole "parallel" could mean new types,But i don't think they shouldn't be groundbreaking. Maybe light type? Beating Dark and Losing to Dark or something simple like that. We could see new evos for Heatmor and Elygem and some other weird things people forget exist. But remember, this is all speculation.
