(1) Isshu Starter's English Names Revealed! [11/22]

Oshawott could be a combination of Otter and Oshawa, a city on the shore of lake Ontario.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oshawa

Edit: Ninja'd

"Tepig" and "Snivy" are pretty okay with me, but "Oshawott" is awful. I was hoping the US name might save it from the awfulness of its unnecessary ice cream cone head--which seems even sillier now that we know there are actually equally silly ice cream Pokemon this generation--but I guess not. Changing the region name is also really silly given the convention of keeping them the same. What, did they think "Isshu" was somehow dramatically more difficult than "Sinnoh" for the target audience to pronounce?

And, to beat a dead horse, I still don't see why we have another fighting/fire, but then the other two are single-types in their final evos. I like plenty of the other Pokemon designs this generation, but the starters are kind of a disaster, and I don't plan to use any of them on my team.

In positive news, the new logos are nice.

You guys should know that it isn't the english name of the region that was weird, it was the japanese name that was! It was the first region that didn't have an O in its name! The english name gave it one again, UnOva! You people are only complaining, with all of it infact, because you have known them as Tsutaja, Pokabu, Mijumaru and Isshu as long as you know! XD

eh, snivy's alright, tepid ummm ok, an the other one i can't really pronounce, go figure with a name like that lol XD, an what the heck is the poing of changing the name of issue i actually like the sound of issue region, sounds like it's got it's own problems to take care of so it makes it interesting lol , and unknowkema-ba region? sounds like crap land lol, i don't get it but ill get use to the new pokemon names

I don't mind the starter names because they evolve pretty soon but re-naming Isshu "Unova" is terrible.

So am I the only one who thinks Oshawott is an awesome name - and one of the best ones for a starter yet?

You people are only complaining, with all of it infact, because you have known them as Tsutaja, Pokabu, Mijumaru and Isshu as long as you know! XD

If my assumption is correct, Mucrush makes a valid point - some of us really grew fond of the Japanese names, and as such are opposed to them being changed. I just don't think Unova and Tepig sound right. Then again, Unova does sound kind of neat...Tepig, however, still doesn't click with me.

The only name I like is Snivy even though it's predictable. Looks like I'll be using the Japanese names for the starters since they're much better, especially Mijumaru. And the new name for the region is alright (I can see how Isshu might not settle well).

The Pokemon names for the starts look a lot more simple compared to the Japanese Pokemon names XD. So much easier to say XD.:)

I came here to bathe in the hate, but there seems to be so much of it that I'm drowning...

Really guys, if the names were any different you would still have the same reactions. Deal with it, give it a rest and stop your nerd ranting. Now then,

Snivy- Expected, but I'm glad they went with this. Combination of snake-snide-ivy, and it's unique because unlike the other calm and shy grass starters Snivy'd rather put up a fight.

Tepig- Tepid-pig, I like it. "Tepid" is understandable because it means lukewarm, and Tepig is a rather cold starter- he doesn't have an ounce of flame anywhere on his body from being a basic starter. As he evolves his temperature will shift, cool.

Oshawott- Completely unique and unexpected, with too many etymological theories. Ocean? Wash? Oshawa? Shower? Water and otter are obvious though. I like this name.

Unova- Combination of Latin Unum and Nova- One New. Referring to a new region in a new generation. Also universal, for being a very diverse Pokemon game.

HATERS GONNA HATE. I find no faults in these names- they're not the best but we don't know what the best are.
And any comments on how these are uncreative and simple are quite stupid, as Japanese is not your native language. I was waiting for these names because I was sick of saying the Japanese names all the time. You may be used to them, but it's time to move on. I can't wait for some names to be dubbed... such as Swanna or Wargle.

Tepig is a Good Name, as well as Snivy, But Oshawatt, boy am i gonna say this.... It's a very stupid name! It's something people would start from going upset, and saying OshaWATT! But, Tepig is an Ok word, and also.... don't hate my favorite pig Pokemon for these problems, you need to be nice, and appreciated.. your taking being a Douchey Mcnitpick about one Starter too far.... Just get what you have, and be happy about it....Please be nice to Tepig :(...

I don't like the Japanese names. Frankly, I never remember Smugleaf Japanese name, and mijimaru was a real pain to learn. xD My only complain against Tepig, is the word "Tepid" doesn't suit him at ALL. Trepig could have been better... or anything else... Tepid is just to... apathetic, and he is too energetic...

i find it funny if u don't like something then your a hater its called an opinion :p look it up might learn something

tepig what???? i can hardely prenounce it is it like T-pig or somthing
i like the name snivy nut i was hoping for smugleaf but still snivy is still cool
oasawott is cool it reminds me of osiwa (sorry for the bad spelling) it kind of makes sense osiwa is close to a bunch of lakes and then the ott part is from otter :9

Wowzers, people are allowed to have an opinion, but their opinion is hating the names. And if they hate the names, guess what it makes them haters, not all around haters but just haters of the names and i will let them have their opinion. I don't have to tell you guys that i love the names, because it's obvious, heck, Snivy is the best of the three. Anyway, is that the only english information we will get today?

You guys are ridiculous! its like "OMGness snivy? For realz?" I mean, Haters hate, but you all would have complained about it one way or another. if the names arent 'good' enough for you find another World famous anime monster based video game! the names make total sense. you all get sorta annoyig sometimes. i hope the names grow on you because i will die of hate soon.

Actually, i think Unova means "One New", which would make sense since this is kind of a reboot? start-over. Snivy isn't too bad but kind of generic. Tepig is stupid... personally i'd go with Pokabu. Oshowatt actually sounds kind of cool.
