(1) Mega Charizard X Revealed During 'Pokemon Origins' [10/2]

Well, it works on the two examples we know.
Like Mewtwo Y's big-tail head is so big to actually contain it's brain filled with awesome psi-powers.
Something that we know him for.
Mewtwo X on the other hand goes all for the muscle, develops new ways of fighting.
Also, I'm pretty sure MegaStones will be tradeable, so it's not a big deal.
I think Absol may be X, but Mawile goes for Y?
Why? Absol got wings, trait rather absent from his traditional image.
Mawile gets another jaw, which is clearly an improvement from her known trademark.
Also Kangaskhan is Y by that logic. ;)
I don't think we gonna get all Megalutions in two versions, but like someone said... they will follow a certain pattern.
Which, my dear boys and girls is also tied to Yveltal and Xerneas. :>
Yveltal is in the SKY! Up!
While Xerneas stays on the ground and walks even further. :>

Anyone else think that maybe, just MAYBE, that that ISN'T it's default coloration? Maybe that's the Shiny Mega Charizard X, and it's only shown with that color because it's Reds Charizard..
Which would mean that the real coloration would be the same as Mega Charizard Y.

Regardless, I pre-ordered Y already, maybe I'll try to trade Stones, but I think both Charizards will have uses. Y = Weather and not weak to Fairies, X = Doesn't have crippling Stealth Rock weakness, but is useless versus Fairies (which are overpowered and will probably be the most common Typing in the new meta..)

So in the end, he traded one weakness for another.. :p

Since Fire resists Fairy, Mega Charizard X will be neutral to Fairy-type damage. Mega Charizard Y will be resistant.

For reference:

Mega Charizard X:
2x Weak: Ground, Rock, and Dragon
Neutral: Normal, Water, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Flying, Psychic, Ghost, Dark, and Fairy
1/2x Resistant: Electric, Bug, and Steel
1/4x Resistant: Fire and Grass

Mega Charizard Y:
4x Weak: Rock
2x Weak: Water and Electric
Neutral: Normal, Ice, Poison, Flying, Psychic, Ghost, Dragon, and Dark
1/2x Resistant: Fire, Fighting, Steel, and Fairy
1/4x Resistant: Grass and Bug
Immunity: Ground

As you can see, the typing change is not really beneficial or harmful, with Charizard X losing an immunity but also losing a 4x weakness to Rock (Stealth Rock especially), giving it a bit more sturdiness in battles where switching a lot would be common.

Charizard X's STABs are only both resisted by Marill and Azumarill. They are at least neutral on everything else. However, Charizard can get Metal Claw from breeding in Gen 5, giving this thing perfect neutral coverage.

Charizard Y's STABs are both resisted by 38 different Pokemon, including the ever-present Tyranitar. You won't be wanting to use this guy without Earthquake for coverage. With Earthquake, only Archen, Archeops, and Aerodactyl won't take neutral damage from Charizard.

Just some thoughts. :)

Not forget that Stealth Rock and stuff like hazards may say bye-bye in Sky Battles, which may be quite popular.
Oh, another wonderful element to my theory. :>
Charizard Y is much more suitable for Sky Battles, and that's his moment of shine.
You know, skY. Upright. :3

Aerodactyl would be available for Sky Battles, and can carry stealth rock. Unless Nintendo makes a special rule that says no SR, then they will still be a factor.

They already said some moves won't be useable in Sky Battles, Rune.
Earthquake and Stealth Rock are on the first place, imho... cause that would be silly...

WOW, thank the heavens I am buying X. Did not expect for other Pokemon besides Mewtwo to have different Mega Evolutions, especially version exclusive. Mega Charizard X is gorgeous.

While I'm happy we finally got a fire/ Dragon charizard... I'm upset its a physical attacker, now my timid charizard will never be as practical in mega x form. I was getting y anyways, but geeze did they have to make only the x version dragon-type? They couldn't have it be both or ya know, change his typing completely?

Whatever, I'm just more dissatisfied than I should be.

Did they specifically say which moves though?

And if you tried to use any ground type attack in Sky Battles you deserve to lose.

EDIT: Cutting out rock type moves would be a travesty. It totally eliminates 1/3 of flying types' weaknesses, severely limiting any sort of strategy. Every attacker would have to be specially based, as electric and ice's best moves are special.

My goodness, what will a shiny Mega Charizard X look like. It is also likely you can trade the item to the other game and have both versions in the same game as well.

But my goodness *looks at its type and sees fire/dragon* So what I am wondering is what will happen if you mega evolve Charizard into that thing in the middle of a sky battle . . .

Also one of Charizard's pokedex entries says that Charizard's flame burns hotter if it experiences tough battles *looks at the flames on Mega Charizard X*

Blue flames are hotter than orange flames so . . .

You know, looking through the official Pokemon X & Y page, I noticed something.
Both Charizardite and Mewtonite have etiher the X or Y in their name. Other mega stone names are not even mentioned when it comes to all the other mega Pokemon. The only exception is Blaziken and Blazikenite ('cause it's special and it cannot be obtained normally?).

What could this mean...?

Just a thought about Mega Charizard X: This thing has Tough Claws as its ability.

Moveset:
@ Choice Band
1. Outrage
2. Flare Blitz
3. Metal Claw (Smacking those Fairies)
4. Earthquake (Otherwise walled by Heatran)

I don't think Tough Claws will boost EQ but still, this thing will be a monster

EDIT: Wow, choice band....I lost my mind for a second. Ignore that.

Rune, I don't think they are cutting rock type moves, but rather hazard moves like spikes or stealth rock. You usually put them ON the ground, which is pretty far away from the battlers in the case of Sky Battles. :)

Edit: Minous2 I'm pretty sure Mewtwo and Charizard are not the only ones, and the remaining Kanto starters WILL get the same treatment.
And that those stones will be tradeable, after all we're getting Torchic WITH the stone.

With Doubles gaining more popularity, being the official VGC meta, as well as gaining acceptance as a Tier by Smogon, Entry Hazards will be less of a worry and Weather-inducers, like Drought, more important.

So the way I see it, Charizard Y will be good for Doubles and Sky Battles, whereas Charizard X will be good for Singles.

*throws money at screen* TAKE MY MONEY, TAKE IT-oh wait you already have it D:

They finally did Dragon/Fire geez, took them long enough! Would have found it unacceptable after all these years where people were screeching why he wasn't in the Gen 1 Pantheon of Dragons and now I can sleep at night.

I can't possibly wait the 9 days now...even keeping myself occupied with Terraria and school...nope not happening...

Where were you for generation five?

I am seeing that Mega Char X is fire/dragon and its ability isn't levitate yet it is still able to participate in Sky battles, is it because it has wings? Sorry if this seems redundant lol.

Stealth Rock floats in the air, otherwise flying types or things with levitate wouldn't be effected, and they are. This is one of the reasons Stealth rock is so broken and more widely used than the other hazards.

Uhm, TayBee... because he enters the battle as the normal Charizard...
...would you expect the poor guy to fall down after he MegaEvolves? :>

I'm thinking it has to the with Charizard being Flying when the Sky Battle starts, and then Mega Evolving after the fact.

So he remains, instead of plummeting to his doom with those puny wings... :p

Similarly, in a regular battle, you could switch your regular Charizard into a choice-locked Earthquake, still having the immunity, and then mega-evolve. This is assuming mega-evolution is an after-turn effect on the turn Charizard enters the battle. Has it been confirmed when in a turn mega-evolution takes place?
