I think this movie got it idea from the legend of the nine tail fox that bewitch the Japanese emperor called Tamamo no Mae. I notice the eyebrow marking on Zorua and the red cheek and lip of Zoroark resemble very much how they describe Japanese noble women in the old time and also Suicune, Entei, and Raikou (especially Suicune) resemble very much the ancient Japanese officials or even the emperor himself.
