I am personally not happy about the announcement of EX's remaining for a new era of formats. This bodes toxic for the TCG and I just hope doesn't bring it to a halt like DP did during its initial launch from, "Free attacks AND we cannot draw or player supporter turn 1!?"
I think you're a little mixed up. Not being able to draw if you went first was only during the RSE era. Starting DP you could draw if you went first, but the no Trainer/Supporter/Stadium rule for going first still applied.

And what's wrong with no-energy attacks? They weren't even that strong in many cases - if anything, they were useful little asides that brought variety to the game. I'm just sad that in HGSS-era only the babies had those.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few of those now and again, just on little basics, for example.

Yeah, you are right. No one liked the no supporter first turn or free attacks though. As a League Owner and TO I have seen quite a bit of anger towards EX Pokemon and the format.

So I'm no one?

I don't know where you're coming from, but most everyone has reacted negatively to re-instating first-turn trainers, and much preferred not having them for the person going first.

I'm from a pretty big Pokemon State, and yes, no one liked back when DP started the rule changes nor the Pokemon. I seen a surplus of players quitting and they never came back. The same is starting to happen with XY.

I'm from Southern California.

Your move, sir.

If you've nothing else to say, we should probably get back on topic.

Well the fact there are EX's is gonna make using a Tier 1 deck and collecting all the Fairy cards that much harder. Although I imagine Full Art Xerneas will be FABULOUS

It seems they change the card template when they change the ultra rare mechanic, don't you agree?

They didn't change the BW card template, and EX's are still here.

Even though Gen VI has in no way resembled Gen II Pokémon-wise, I was always confident the TCG would keep the same template for Gen VI. Since Gen V was a huge reboot for the series, and Gen VI seemed to be the Johto to Unova's Kanto (new type introduced, new mechanics, etc.), it seemed likely that the TCG would look similar (in the same vein as Class --> Neo series).

I'm not a player, so I can't comment on the EX situation. I'll just collect one of each new Pokémon for my Pokédex collection and be on my merry way...

Welp, without seeing the rest of the set, they all suck really badly except for Yveltal, which to be entirely honest is sorta mediocre. You aren't going to be able to dark patch to grab big OHKO's, and needing the dark means it can't use any other acceleration (It isn't Deoxys weak like Mewtwo, but Mewtwo is really bad right now anyway for multiple different reasons). It can use Dark Claw but I really can't see it seeing much play given what the format looks like right now.

Of course, it's all speculative until we see the rest if the set. Really really excited to see how the mega evolutions work.

All I can say is that I will be VERY disappointed if we don't get a new Charizard-EX.

SoulWind: Don't be ridiculous. There's no chance to not getting one. Maybe even two. Onw for each of his megas…
They just dont want to throw all triumphs at once, I'm pretty sure. (It may has 190 HP, it'd be great). ;-)

The cards are bad. The artwork is incredible. This is all that really needs to be said.

I want dat Xerneas. Show us the Charizard.

Yes! EXs are back, and hopefully full arts as well.

I think we will see a Super Crazy OP Charizard EX X and a medicore and gimmicky Charizard EX Y

Thanks for keeping me away from this game for yet another generation PCL. Words cannot describe how disgusted I am right now.

None of the cards are that great, the only one that might see some play is Yveltal, though calling it a dark type Mewtwo is cute. The artwork is amazing and I can't wait to see them in person.

I'm not evening going to comment on the whining that's going on in this thread.

hmmm. Why does Fairy-type resist Dark instead of Dragon? It is immune to Dragon, that is more significant to be used as a resistance in the TCG...

Just wait... There will be a Charizard EX and then, a Mega Charizard X card in Collection X and a Mega Charizard Y card in Collection Y... Can't wait for those...

Yeah baby, another point for Yveltal.
Honestly I could care less if EX's continue. Catcher being limited allows me to use Safeguards and non-EX attackers for a big prize advantage over their EX's.

XY Base Set confirmed that Big Basic EX's will still be overpowered while Stage 1/Stage 2 Evolutions will still be underpowered because apparently they're no longer relevant to the TCG anymore when Basics are needed to keep up with the speed of the format compared to the time it would take to setup your Stage 1/Stage 2 Evolutions which explains why the new 1st Turn rules were enacted so that you're not allowed to setup your bench using Call for Family unless a new Supporter to search for Basics gets printed soon. Either way regardless of the new XY Rules it's still a horrible direction for the game right now and I wouldn't be surprised If we see more people quitting the Pokemon TCG soon as a result of this.

Venusaur EX and Blastoise EX as Big Basic EX's were terrible card design choices but I could see the reason why Venusaur EX was printed as a way to counter against Blastoise/Keldeo doing 120 with weakness and Poison to Blastoise (Boundaries Crossed) which might be a guaranteed KO with or without Virbank City Gym. Blastoise EX doesn't seem that playable to me compared to it's Stage 2 counterpart, Rapid Spin for a DCE is a waste compared to Splash Bomb which costs 3 Water. Charizard EX as a Big Basic EX is to be expected so maybe it will be better than it's other Kanto Starter counterparts on that end. Even still the idea of printing evolved Pokemon as Basics is absurd, they're supposed to be printed as
Stage 1/Stage 2 Evolutions not Big Basic EX's.

Yveltal EX with Darkrai EX and maybe Hydreigon (Dark Trance ability) could become a thing now thanks to it's 1st attack Evil Ball which is basically Mewtwo EX's X-Ball attack. With Fighting resistance it gets around Landorus EX but I can imagine people teching in Thundurus EX or regular Zekrom for Yveltal EX. Xerneas EX seems disappointing at the current moment but could be better the more we know what's in XY Base Set. With the way cards are designed these days for the Pokemon TCG I assume that there will still be very few Stage 1/Stage 2 Evolutions that are playable enough to be Tier 1 or Tier 2 that will most likely need 2-3 Tropical Beach as a means to setup especially on the 1st turn to make up for not attacking depending If there will be a card printed in XY that helps players who don't own any Beaches or can't afford them.

Well, I suppose the nice thing about the low number of Kalos Pokemon (and Mega Evolutions being some sort of gimmick they'll have to limit to a few per set) is that they'll have to bust out long-forgotten TCG Pokemon like Cloyster eventually.

On soul winds charizard plead, I think there will be a charizard centered set, they are running out of ledges to use
