1st Ed Base Set question

Hi everyone,

I'm just curious:

How can I tell if my unopened base set booster pack or booster box is a 1st edition pack without opening it?

Between what months of what year were the 1st Edition Base set cards released?

It will say "1st Edition" on the front of the package or box.
