(2) All Names Possibly Revealed, More 'Black' and 'White' English Names Revealed [1/13]

My original post:
I'm just going to wait for an official announcement and the fervor of hate to wear down. I really don't care what GF names most of these guys because I never made myself learn the japanese names... I don't have any attachment to some other name.

Also... the news post says it's a list of English and ITALIAN names. Are we sure that some of those names aren't for the European versions of the game? Bronzong is Archeodong in France. ArcheoDONG. I actually searched one out on the GTS so I could make jokes about it. My friend in Germany traded me Bidoof with thier German name of Bidiza.

Anyway.. it's not that big of deal. A couple months ago everyone was made because they didn't like how the new guys looked. Now the appearance hate has died down.. the names are what's hated now. Har.

^Wrong, first Italy never changes the English names. Second those were the Italian classifications and not the actual names. Third some of the names were officially revealed after the list was made.

Ok... how am I wrong? I was ASKING if we were sure that wasn't the case. I simply used in an example where the name was different. I don't know anyone in Italy so I haven't trade for thier pokémon. Next time maybe you should actually tryin' reading the response a little closer before your so quick to label them wrong. As for names being released after the list was made doesn't mean anything. Some pokémon names are universal across several languages (ie: Pachirisu).

1. Serperior - Just a Rhyperior ripoff. Seriously, GameFreak? Why don't you just make a Yangrowth or a Tanmega? That's creative. (Growth has a T in it Bobby... just so you know.)
2. Watchog - Sigh... I just can't see myself using this name. I'll just call it Miruhoggu.
3. Lillipup, Herdier, and Stoutland - This is the worst. You'd think that with all of the other basic names given to these Pokemon, they would AT LEAST mention in the name the word "yorkie." No, they use the name Stoutland, which, in my opinion, land is one of the suffixes YOU DO NOT GIVE TO A POKEMON, EVER!
4. Tranquill - I wonder who's idea it was to say, "Hey, guys, let's add an l at the end of the word tranquil! It's so original! ROFLOL!"
5. Roggenrola - *vomit sounds* Oh my... What, a cliche
6. Gurdurr - Play on the word "gurder." This one is ok, but the fact that they repeat the suffix in this evolution line bothers me.
7. Throh and Sawk - *vomit sounds* huh? Gamefreak! Why is Dageki named Sawk? I see NO correlation. Somebody please explain this to me.
8. Scraggy - Add this to the list of Black and White Pokemon named after actual words.
9. Deerling and Sawsbuck - I would very much like to speak to the top zoologist in Unova, because they seriously need an I.Q. Test. Deerling? I understand Deer, but the suffix ling has no business being in this name. I really hope this is list is fake. If not, they've ruined one of the most unique Pokemon from the fifth gen.
10. Alomomola - One of the weirdest names I've ever seen. But, at least it's a palidrome.

1)Wow.. and all of the pokémon from earlier gens with King, Don, or Dos in thier names don't bother you? NidoKING, SeaKING, KINGler, KINGdra, SlaKING, SlowKING, RhyDON, DONphan, HippowDON, GyaraDOS, ZapDOS, AriaDOS, CraniDOS, RamparDOS.... none of these bother you? You do realize that even in the non-video game world that preffixes and suffixes get reused alot right? Ever used the metric system? Also, why do you think dinosaur names commonly end in suffixes like -saur or -raptor?

2) Don't care about that guy.. he's like Furret and Raticate. Rarely used.. so what does it matter if it's name isn't a work of art.

3) You actually make a decent point here.

4) You do realize the "quill" part is also a reference to feathers... which have a quill?

5) I actually really like Roggenrola as a name. No worse than Geodude.

6) Why? They all look pretty "durr" to me. Addtionally, it's a stereotype that musclebound people are dumb... so yea. Durr. Also suffixes have be carried over from previous evolutions before... ie: BulbaSAUR, IvySAUR, VenuSAUR. Same with prefixes.. ie: ELEkid, ELEctabuzz, ELEctivire.

7) Sawk and Throh are based on A) Hitting someone aka "socking them" and "throwing them" as those are two common fighting strategies. I'm not saying they are the bet names in the world, just saying they are based on something. They could have just as easily ended up Hitmonsawk and Hitmonthroh... but I bet people whould have hated that seeing as putting Hitmon on thier names is "uncreative."

8) ...That has happened in other pokémon games besides BW. Look at R/B, Muk is a pre-existing word (even though spelled different). So is Ditto, Electrode, Onix (spelled Onyx.. it's a gemstone), etc.

9) Deer + Sapling (a young tree). Sounds like the zoologist got it right on the mark.

10) I'm sure it has something to do with tropical fish just like Girafarig is a palidrome involving giraffe.

I love nerd rage. I can come in here and point out the problems in people's logic.

Galvantula= me throwing a tantrum because it isn't called Cutiepie.
Voltik is OK though.
And how could they call my cute little crab Dwebble?

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be pronounced Cough-uh-gree-jus anyway. Coffin + egregious...

cofagrigus is okay I think at it's leas less cheap than klikklakklangklika-whatever o the vanille evoline -_- seriously an ice-creamcone wasn't lame enough or what?

@SuperMatt142

"Also... the news post says it's a list of English and ITALIAN names."

Your use of capitalization seems to make you sound pretty sure of yourself. I don't see you asking anything.
Also, I wasn't posting specifically to you, other people believed this to be the case and I was correcting them.

Dewott is an excellent name.
Dew (drops of water) + Duo (two shells on its body) + Water + Otter.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with Dewott. It doesn't even sound awkward. I like it.

Alright, I need to throw my two cents into this thread.
I am a regular PokeBeach visitor. I've read some pretty out of touch (in my opinion) critiques of Black and White thus far, but never had a better reason to actually create an account here than I do now.

I've been with Pokemon literally since I was born. I've followed every generation, my favorite being Hoenn. I truly love the Pokemon series, and I am absolutely dying to get my hands on White version.

Some of the messages here are absolutely appalling.

Why must some of you people incessantly cry, moan, complain, insult, and beat down on Black and White? This is getting absolutely ridiculous. You all (the complainers, which there are many) poured out tears when they even came out with the names Black and White! Now you all must cry and moan about the names of the Pokemon? First of all, the overwhelming majority of you took a glance at the names, some looked a little odd to you, and you came on here and poured out your pitiful life story in a very emotional and distraught way about how Pokemon is somehow "dead" and Game Freak needs to grow up with the fans.

Fans, how about you grow up? I doubt any of you even thought twice about the meanings, word play-ons, or ANYTHING having to do with ANY of the names. Thank God for people like Niko who actually use their brains before they sulk their eyes out, and yes, there are more of you.

Look, the names are different. They may seem weird to you now, but give them a chance! It's amazing how some of you people claim to be 15-17 when you act 6. Just because something is different doesn't make it weird. There is no need for reducing yourself to tears because they changed "Cobalon" (which was extremely awkward and had no meaning) to "Cobalion" (which sounds good and actually makes sense). There's no need to use "Isshu" and "Unova" "interchangeably", whatever the heck thats supposed to mean, and just because "Confagrigus" has "friend" in it doesn't mean you need to lower your maturity level and giggle like a two year old.

Sawsbuck, for example (and I can't believe I even need to repeat this) was one of the top complained about names from what I've seen here and on other forums. SAWS = Summer Autumn Winter Spring. Buck = Male deer. Oh wow, what a terrible name! Serperior, OMG RHYPERIOR RIP-OFF! I suppose that makes Archeos an Arceus ripoff, no? What about Confagrigus being hard to pronounce... you know, I'll speak for myself when I say that it took me a few tries to get "Kyogre" and "Rayquaza" right too...

Look, whether or not you "like" the names, I think I can speak for a lot of us when it pains us to see you ripping at the game we love, which, by the way, isn't even out yet. Don't dismiss this post as some "noob" trying to cause an uproar, because while I've not had an account here, I am here almost every day.

This post is from the heart, and I hope you all take it for what it's worth. I also hope this will open some of your eyes and the horrendously immature, unnecessary, and frankly, stupid complaining will stop. Thank you and God bless.

What I'm ashamed of is that I know I'll come to like the names, just as I did for the Pokemon designs when they were released, but it's in my nature to be wary of new things... and my heart starts racing when I let my opinion out, and then I feel stupid looking back and bashing what really isn't that bad to begin with.

I'm still sticking with my initial dislikes... and holding out for this list to be a fake, because to be quite honest, I just want more new names to discover, and having them all revealed at once like this is somewhat of a letdown, even if it does turn out to be fake.

That's how it is for me anyway. I'm really a very positive person, and I don't like frowning at simple things... but you know, sometimes it's hard when Pokemon is such a big part of your life, and they crank out some less-than-fitting names for your favourites!

and they crank out some less-than-fitting names for your favourites!
First off, I do respect your post. My heart also beats like a beast when I let my opinion out. Second, you think they're "less-than-fitting", but what does that actually mean? Do you actually know the meanings of the names you think are "less-than-fitting"? If it's because you just don't like how they sound, don't call them less-than-fitting, just don't say anything and let them grow on you. If you label something below expectations from the get-go, chances are you'll always think like that. If you're a positive person then I'd think you'd avoid doing that.
Honestly, what are your expectations even based off of? I'm speaking for myself as well, as I truly believe none of us can have any real expectations for this game name-wise. It's pretty much a shot in the dark, for me at least, when I try to guess a Pokemon name...

LLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEE!! >_<
This is an above average example of how NOT to act... I think we can all agree on that.

I wish there were pictures corresponding with them names. It would make more sense if i could see the pokemon who the name will be for.... I didn t memorize the names.

The names are okay, but i dont like how they sound like english words. Eelektrik, sound that out. Same with thorh and sawk and Krookodile.

Eelektrik, sound that out. Same with thorh and sawk and Krookodile.
You got it!

Eelektrik - EEL - ECK - TRICK (electric eel)

*Throh (you spelled it wrong) - THROW (a combat move)

Sawk - SOCK (a combat move)

Krookodile - CROOK - O - DILE (it literally looks like a crook, as in thief, and it's a crocodile)

Does that help?

@BlueEyedSteelix: You sir, sound like an amazing person. I applaud you for your courage.

@SuperMatt: You can't compare the suffix -perior to the suffix -don or -dos. Don and dos are very minor, and something as small as those suffixes can be dismissed. However, using something blatantly obvious and protruding as the suffix -perior more than once bothers me.

@BlueEyedSteelix I already knew about thats what they were supposed to be. But it should be a real name. Not an already existing word. Go electric? GO throw? Go sock? See what i mean? Im not saying i hate the names, but very weird, i cant remember this being done before in pokemon.

@Boddy903

So using -perior as a suffix twice is worst that using King, Don, and Dos 5 or 6 times each?

Yea... that makes perfect sence.

@Nikohesus

I wasn't using caps to sound sure of myself. I used it just to exemplify that there were two possible languages. I thought the ? mark at the end of the following statement would have shown it was a question.. but I guess not. Sorry for the confusion.

----------------------------

On a side note, maybe this list will help by showing what the words make up the names...
