(2) English Movie 14 DVDs To Be Released April 3rd, More BW5 Tid-Bits [12/24]

RE: (1) More BW5 Tid-Bits [12/24]

It might be Dragon Special Energy, but it might not be. I don't believe there's enough to strongly suggest either (only weakly suggest), so I'm not going to say either way. It's pretty likely, though.

As for Ninetales? Is this Ninetales from the Dragon Blast/Blade set, or an older one? I assume it's from the set itself...

*sigh* we'll never have another amazing DVD set like Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, which I love and cherish. I'm happy they at least are putting the two together. That would have been one big pain if they were sold separately. Come on, TPCi, at least put a concept art gallery on these discs! ><

It's went downhill since movie 4-5 anyway, so I don't care. They're more like specials than movies now. Also, not everyone celebrates Christmas, so you might wanna take that off man. "Happy Holidays" is more appropriate.

But that would take effort

THANK YOU, someone that finally understands that Christmas isn't celebrated by everybody!

I understand that, but I don't care. It's my website, I can wish people whatever I want. If you don't celebrate it, ignore it. I'm not a government organization or a business.

Merry Christmas to you too WPM
(seriously its fine)

I am glad that P!P decided to stop making 4 set series'.

The movie was pretty boring and plus I was actually hoping for special features to be included, but it seems like there won't be any included. Oh well, seems like I will be skipping buying these DVDs.

Aww.. The DVD set comes out just after my B-Day!:( Now I'm gonna have to wait if I get the cabbage. But if I do, you can (almost) garentee that I'll be buying the set. My sister and I loved watching it in the theaters and on Cartoon Network! Meh , a Ninetales is a Ninetales... at least alot of Ninetales cards have had beautiful artwork!

On the topic of the movies itself...it's a bit odd. They made a big deal of putting one of them in the theatres (the Zekrom one, right?), and then they're putting them both into DVD releases as if they aren't that special.
It almost seems as if they weren't trying while they were trying (if that makes sense).

I'm glad they decided to put both DVDs together - I was worried they'd try to sell both films separately. The tiny changes between the two films don't justify separate releases (in my opinion).

And as far as the whole "Merry Christmas" thing goes, just pretend it says happy holidays if it's that much of an issue... Which it most likely isn't, some people just like to blow things out of proportion. Through the whole year people wish things to others during times when other peoples' celebrations are going on and forgotten, so I'm not sure why people get so defensive during the end of the year.

Because PokeBeach is trying to force religion on people. Yep, that's our whole goal here. *rolls eyes*

Hope to pick up those two movies when they come out. I am also glad they decided to release them on one disc. In the meantime, I need to get my collection of Pokemon movies on DVD up to date! Missing a few.

The reason is pretty simple: Maximize profits. You do so by getting your product out to as many people as possible while spending as little money as possible.

The intended audience for these movies are little kids. Nintendo and TCPi want to put these into theaters beause kids love going to theaters. They love the loud sound, the giant screen, and the popcorn and Icee. As icing on the cake, each time a kid goes into a theater, they don't go alone--the parents have to buy tickets too. Say a ticket costs $7 for kids, $14 for adults. (That's how much the go around here.) An adult goes in to see War Horse alone, and the theater makes $14, and a part of that goes to Spielberg and his company. A child goes in to see Pokémon Victini with one parent, and the theater makes $21 in the same time, and the same proportion of that goes back to Nintendo and TCPi.

(This is why derivative crud like Chipwrecked can gross so much at the box office: At least half, of the sales actually come from parents and guardians buying tickets to watch over their kids.)

The reason why you don't have very many DVD extras, if any, is again, because the primary audience is little kids. They're thrilled to have the movie at all. They'll stick it in their players and watch it again and again. (This will sometimes apply to theaters too, so the parents have to keep buying movie tickets. In the example above, the theater will make at least $42 from a single viewer.) To them, it's magic. If they're young enough, they'll think what's happening is real. They're not going to care about how the movie was made, or commentary, or textless openings and credits, or even bonus artwork. That stuff is boring. Only grown-ups like looking at people talk about technical stuff and staring at still pictures all day.

I didn't imply you were, silly~

@Ophie:

So the movies have done their part in theatres (for only a single weekend) and now the DVD releases are being treated the same as anything before with no flash or flair?

I think if TPCi wanted a bigger profit off of it, they'd give the movie more than 1 weekend running time in theatres. 'sides, with DVD purchase, it doesn't cost any extra to watch it, like movie tickets do.

I don't disagree that TPCi's marketing is directed at children (it's just more evidence that they really don't care); however, I don't think that has anything to do with how they're treating the DVD release. And a lot of children's movies have several extras on the DVDs that children find absolutely enchanting...it doesn't need to be director's commentary and such; it could just be a minigame or two (I know the Shrek DVDs are like that as I own the first two).

tl;dr version: I think that TPCi's targeting children and the way they're handling the DVD sale are totally unrelated.
