A few points:
- Loathe the border, like most of you all it seems. Japan did a bit more than just return to a neutral border with their BW-era cards, they are much darker than the DP/DPt ones, and they look very classy:
Edit: goodness gracious me, just realise looking at them side by side now that they've kept the JP border on the image window.. wow yeah that is beyond jarring. Not a great design brief there.
- Yeah, nice try PUSA, but that is not how the Pinstripe Holo works. Looking at the photo, the refraction in the lines has a 3D depth thing that was present in the original starry holo from base set which isn't present in the Japanese cards. And, of course, Japan use this holo for the entirety of their card, including the border. Reiterating my border hate, if they didn't change it they could have used the holo for them. That said, I will bide my time and when I can get one of the english cards in hand I'll see how good/bad it is verses the JP issue... I also noticed that the Japanese pinstripe holo uses thicker strokes, whereas the English uses finer, which is why the refraction is really different looking:
- FINALLY using the Japanese ordering system. I'm going to enjoy ordering an English set for the first time in years. Aesthetically it looks a lot better, too.
- Shame they're still using the old rarity system markers. The new ones are honestly quite nice.
Two steps forward, one step back, in a way, but a very good start nonetheless. I've got faith in the English TCG again. (Until I see them potentially butcher the secret rares, but they managed to not do that with the Alph cards, so there is hope.)
