2014 World Cup in Brazil

Germany came to play and have just pushed Brazil around. There's still time to play but Brazil can't be in a worse position then the one they find themselves in currently.

That's not even a semifinal game anymore... the "Great Tragedy", as the defeat against Italy in the 1982 is called is nothing compared to this.

Although I wanted Germany to win, this is actually quite a shame. This match could have been quite a good contest but it's been about as far from that as it gets.

Dunno if the loss of Neymar is what made the Brazilian defenders appear to have their minds occupied on something else. Either that, or they just didn't care about this game... they all (especially Marcelo and Fernandinho) appeared to be playing D for the 1st time.

This is what I sorta dislike about soccer.. A best-of-7 game series like what's used in hockey, basketball, and baseball would be better, imo. Or at least a home/away thing like some soccer leagues use.

And there is the 7th, I feel a bit bad for them, at least 1 goal would make the match look a bit better.

Starting to see lots of people saying the game is rigged... I doubt it, but I'm still wondering what Brazil's defenders were doing all game long.

In case there was any doubt before... Scolari is a dumba.. there's no way Fred is better than Robinho, there's no way Luis Gustavo is better than Kaka.. heck did L.G. and Fred even play today? I only saw Fred get benched but I didn't notice he was playing...

Germany took Brazil to the woodshed, 7-1. They advance to the FIFA World Cup Final to face the winner of Argentina/Netherlands.

Germany were great but Brazil, well what a shambles they were in that game. Too simplistic to put it down to one player perhaps but the lack of Thiago Silva was so vet apparent. No organisation in their defending to speak of and astonishingly it could have been even worse, it was just so easy for Germany in the end. Will be interesting to see how the Brazilian players recover from this, must be devastating to be beaten that badly.

For starters, Scolari has probably already been notified that he's done as Brazil's coach. The bad thing is, who can really help this team rebuild for the next WC in 2018? Robinho, Kaka, and maybe Ronaldinho should've been on this squad, but Kaka and Ronaldinho will almost certainly bee too old in 2018 to help. Robinho still has a shot at reclaiming his rightful starting place at Forward, where Fred has no business seeing as he sucks. Ganzo was also a strong fan-fave to be put at midfield, he has to be on the next WC squad for Brazil.

I'm looking forward to buying a Brazil jersey on clearance now. Danke schöun Deutscheland<3

Yeah, and I'll buy a Germany jersey after Messi or Robben show them a thing or two about how Soccer's played..

It's been a rough 2013-14 sports year for my teams, sorry if I'm a lil salty right now. On a positive note, all but one of my teams made the playoffs, and from those all but one made semi's... Can't wait for NFL season to start, it's the only sport I really care about (and the Pats are the only team I trust) ^_^

I really didn't think it was possible, but now I'm really crossing my fingers for a Germany-Netherlands final. That would be so awesome!

I didn't stay up to watch this match (I need my beauty sleep, and a match starting at 10pm on a weekday is a bit too much for me), but when I wasn't woken up at midnight with people cheering, I'd just assumed that Brazil had won, against mine (and many people's, it seems) expectation. I guess it really was that people weren't cheering because the game had been decided long before...

Also won't be staying up for the Netherlands-Argentina match tonight (not even going to watch the beginning because then I'll end up staying up for the whole thing), but I KNOW I'll be woken up if we win this one, especially with the prospect of playing Germany in the finals. :)

I had to watch the highlights from last night again, and I can't recall any players putting in a worse defensive performance than Marcelo and David Luiz did. Truly shocking, I'm going on about it a bit but that was monumental. Hopefully, and I expect it will be, tonight's game will at least be competitive.

Yeah, Marcelo and David Luiz had put great defensive plays in previous matches. Perhaps the absence of Neymar and Silva wasn't so bad in terms of the team's capabilities as it was in terms of organizing and cooperating. Brazil's players already had trouble cooperating (as I had said before, Brazil was No.1 in individual skills but bad at teamwork) and without their original captain and main defender to organize the back along with the main attacker to organize the front they just crumbled, being unable to play as a team.

Absolutely. Silva is the backbone of the Brazilian defence and as you say, without him there was a real lack of defensive organisation. I think part of what Neymar offers to Brazil is simply his ability to create chances all on his own. In attack the go-to option seemed to be long range passes over the top from Luiz which were either picked off by the German defence out occasionally lead to half chances when they found Hulk/Bernard, which isn't really a credible manner of attacking play at all.

Thank you, Reddit...

But really though.

Brazil's defense was just atrocious. Germany scored at will. I even think the US could've taken Brazil to the woodshed had the USMNT faced this horrible display of defense.

I agree, Brazil's defense couldn't keep a sturdy form.

The game was a complete embarrassment for Brazil. Started to feel bad for them as Germany continued to pile up the goals, especially at 20'+.

Now they'll have to focus on getting third place in Saturday's match.
