Hey PokeBeach! This is my first report of any sort, seeing as this is only my second premier event ever (my first being a Cities I attended in 2004 with my friend).
I was really excited for the prerelease. There were all sorts of cards I wanted for decks I wanted to make, and I ended up getting a good amount of them, including some welcome surprises. I got my friend Aaron and his little brother Alex to ride with me and my brother Ryan because we didn't know how to get there. We actually ended up getting lost and we had to pull over and find out where we were so we could get on the right track.
After about 15 minutes, we got there about 10 minutes early to see two friends of ours from our league, Chad and Brandi, playing a warmup match. I knew Chad would be there, but I didn't know Brandi would. It was a welcome surprise, as now the whole Dizzy Dugout crew could have our own table for making decks and opening packs. We waited, gathered up our supplies, and started the openings.
Opening the packs was probably the most fun of anything that tournament. It's always fun opening packs and making a deck with them. Overall, the Dizzy crew did pretty well with openings. Here's how we all did:
Lukas (me): Terrakion EX FA, each tool, each Blend Energy, holo Golurk, Emolga
Ryan: Terrakion EX, Goodreigon, Blend Energy GRFD
Aaron: Shiny Serperior (1 of 2 shinies pulled at the prerelease, the other being a Rayquaza, inevitably being pulled by a little kid -_-), other than that he bombed
Alex: Rayquaza EX (which he ran with 1 Giant Cape, 1 Tool Scrapper, and 37 energy to go 3-0 in Juniors), probably some other stuff
Chad: Mew EX FA (my favorite art of the set), and some other stuff
Brandi: Emolga, and that's about it D:
We all proceeded to make our decks after bombarding Alex with "RAYQUAZA + ENERGY IS YOUR DECK. dealwithit.jpg". I knew that Terrakion would be the base of my deck, as it did 3 for 90 and attached energy. Other than that, I was kinda lost. Most of my Pokemon used different energy types, but I tried to make the best of what I had. Here's my final list:
1 Terrakion EX FA
1-1-1 Badchomp (with good Gabite)
1-1 Zweilous (because it did 3 for 80)
1-1 Golurk (I was hoping to do some damage with Devo Punch, but I never got Golurk out)
1 Durant
1 Audino
1 Bidoof (confusion trolling)
1 Feebas (to draw cards)
1 Giant Cape
1 Rescue Scarf
1 Blend Energy WLFM
1 Blend Energy GRFD
Some conglomeration of 21 energies which I forgot
Afterwards, Seniors were paired with Masters because Aaron was the only Senior, and we started our battles. Best of 1, 4 prizes, 30(?) minute time limit.
Round 1
Lukas vs. ? with Various Grass Pokemon
I forgot my first round opponent's name, but it was probably because the match wasn't very entertaining or anything like that.
I start Gible, he starts Wurmple. He wears down my Gible after I constantly Sand Attack stall as I have no other Pokemon. I was about to die when I topdecked a Giant Cape, which I promptly attached and Sand Attacked. I survive the next turn, and topdeck Terrakion EX. Yes! I have a chance. I proceed to stall with Gible some more as I power up Terrakion, and once Gible dies, I sweep his board with Terrakion. 1-0 After the prerelease, I trade him a reverse Badchomp for a Goodchomp because 1. he made the offer, 2. he liked the art more, and 3. I'm a grassshole. Good times.
Round 2
Lukas vs. Ryan with Terrakion and friends
We both pulled Terrakions, which was a good thing because we share our cards. Here, though, I was worried. I saw Terrakion's power firsthand, as I powered up my Terrakion and bench last game, so I was worried about Ryan doing that before I could.
Fortunately, I start Emolga, and he starts Baltoy and Nosepass. I get out Terrakion with Call for Family, power him up, and Ryan just couldn't do anything. I KOed all of his Pokemon before he could get set up. It's ugly, but it happens. 2-0 I was just kinda sad that I did it to my brother, because I ruined his record. Oh well, life goes on. It's what you pull that matters after all, right? RIGHT!?
Round 3 - Finals
Lukas vs. Kevin with Giratina and Terrakion
It was now the 2-0s versing each other. I was battling one of the two people to pull two EXs at the prerelease, and Alex was facing the other one in Juniors (I believe he had Ho-oh EX FA and Giratina EX). I didn't want to get stressed out, though, because that would seriously hinder my performance.
The match didn't start out very well. I started Terrakion, but I couldn't get the second Fighting energy I needed to do 3 for 90. I did 2 for 50 to a Feebas for 1 prize, and he sends up Giratina EX. I do 2 for 50 3 turns in a row as I fill up my bench. I get the second fighting the 4th time, and I hit 3 for 90 so I can start pumping up my Golett. He sends up his Terrakion and hits me with 90. I was about to take a serious dent, and I wasn't happy about it. But, luck decided to be on my side today, and I topdecked a Giant Cape. I attach, and do 90 damage twice in a row for the game and prerelease. 3-0 I was the only Master/Senior to go 3-0, and Alex was the only Junior to go 3-0. I return my energies, collect my packs, and proceed to pull a steaming lump of dung. Oh well. My brother, on the other hand, pulled a Giratina EX, so we ended up with 3 EXs at the end of the day. Here's the record of everyone else in the Dizzy crew:
Lukas: 3-0
Ryan: 1-2
Aaron: 0-3 (possibly the only one to bomb today) with assorted groups of Pokemon
Alex: 3-0 with RayquazaDonk
Chad: 2-1 with Mew/Yanmega
Brandi: 2-1 with more assorted Pokemon
After saying our goodbyes, me, Ryan, Aaron, and Alex went to McDonald's where he ate two Big Macs, whereas I ate a McChicken. So gourmet.
Thanks for reading my prerelease report, and I hope yours was as good as mine!
