3DS Discussion Thread

Merged the YouTube app thread with the main 3DS thread.

Also, I too have noticed disruptions of service with the YouTube app. I thought it was my net at first, but I see that others have had similar problems. Not sure what might be causing it, perhaps the app isn't entirely cmpatible with the 3DS (since YouTube normally needs Flash Player) and as such it has problems. A future patch might change this.

Well that was certainly a way to end the year!

- A wild crossover appeared! Dynasty/Samurai Warriors + ...Zelda!?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOq4IiuRMWk

- That Chibi-Robo AR game that came out in Japan a while ago is coming to the eShop relatively soon (few weeks or something)

- Those who download and use Pokemon Bank before September 30th, 2014, including the free trial people, will get a Celebi! Rarest event of them all, baby!

- A big 'ol Bravely Default demo is coming soon. It'll be it's own side-story, so that'll be cool.

- Free DLC for Sonic Lost World on Wii U! It's a crossover with Yoshi's Island, and it looks wonderful!

- NES Remix, because nostalgia

- Dr. Luigi!! Basically a Wii U version of Dr. Mario, with new modes and stuff!

- A crazy cinematic was shown, first starting with Mario & Co. on Rainbow Road... and then Kirby shows up on his star and races along them. Kirby Air Ride crossover? All the sudden, bam, a Super Mario Galaxy launcher star launches a thing, and after a bit of trailing Kirby comes face-to-face with a Luma-oh it's Smash Bros.

- Mario Kart 8 trailer!

- Reggie arm wrestles!

The app works fine when it does though. The weird part is that something is causing it to go back to the main menu. It runs fine like it is supposed to but there is something that needs to be patched to fix the boot out error. Otherwise it works good. Right now it works about 80% of the time. Now we just need to patch the other 20% XD.:)

The STUPID update that's required for me to go online on Pokémon XY won't let me go onto the eShop at all!!! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!
Nintendo are so bloody stupid, because they won't allow me to use my Wii U account on my 3DS, because my Wii U account uses a Symbol and for whatever insane reason, you can't bloody use Symbols on your 3DS account!!!

Do I need to set up that stupid Nintendo account BS to get the eShop to work?

[split] Pokémon X / Y General Discussion - Don't Post Topics That Have Their Own Thread!

Are the Nintendo servers seriously down again? I can't connect to the internet on X because 'an error has occurred' 006-0502

Same thing here... bleh...

Does anyone know when Nintendo will fix the Youtube glitch for good or permanently? I am asking because it is stil glitching and closing after the 3rd or 4th video on any list. Also I did figure out how to stop it from glitching temporarily. For about a day to a week in some cases. To fix the severe glitch (where it will do it a lot) Just run any first video one any list and it will fix the seere glitch for awhile. When it does the sevete glitch this seems to fix it temporarily. Anyway If anyone knows about a patch in the works or knows when the next update is coming please let me know. Thanks XD.:)

Nintendo 3DS Digital vs Physical Copies

Has anyone been buying the digital copies? I am just curious how many games will fit on a memory card.
I have read it supports up to 32gb cards. However you can use bigger cards but they must be formatted to fat32 which isn't that difficult to accomplish.

Part of me still likes having the physical games but at the same time I like having it already on the console and no tiny games for me to lose. However if I can only fit a few games on a memory card before it fills up then that defeats the purpose for me going full digital.

What is everyone's thoughts on this?

The only problem I can see with Digital copies is games like MH3, and Pokemon can't be backed up. So, if that DS ever decides to crap out, you lose everything except the fact you bought the game.
Once PokeBank comes out, that can be remedied for Pokemon, so, in a few years we'll be good (badum tssh).
I personally would prefer physical carts.
But, perhaps that's me.

RE: Nintendo 3ds digital copies

I love having physical copies. When I'm not using a game, I put it back in its box so that I don't lose it. Or, I put them in a drawer where I store my games. I haven't lost any games yet. I haven't bought any digital copies, but that might change if they don't plan to release the new Ace Attorneys as a physical copy.

I guess it really depends on if you're a collector. Some people must have the physical copies. Some don't care, as long as they get the cheapest price or easy convenience. If you're not a collector, you can always have a mix--some physical and some digital.

RE: Nintendo 3ds digital copies

I keep all my 3DS games + Pokémon Black for when Transfer comes out, next to me on my desktop.

RE: Nintendo 3ds digital copies

The physical games are nice to have and one good thing is you can sell the game if you don't like it or play it enough. Whereas the digital game you are stuck with.

From what I have read it looks like most 3ds games are between 500mb and 1gb in size. However some of the non 3ds games are much smaller in size.

RE: Nintendo 3ds digital copies

"Hey, this game is cool! Maybe I could lend it to a friend to play one day!"
"...aww, it's a soft copy. I don't want to give up my 3DS just to play a game."

...I really don't like digital copies. At all. If I can get a physical copy of a game, I will always prefer that to a digital one. There are only 2 games I own digital - the first (Fire Emblem: Awakening) was due to a special edition 3DS, and the second (AA5) was because English physical copies don't exist.

3DS XL Accessories

I just picked up my 3ds XL and what can I say it's great.

What are some must have accessories for the 3ds XL.

I have been looking at cases and almost bought the nerf armor case until I read the reviews that it scratched the 3ds.

I was thinking of picking up the circle pad pro, screen protector, a case and the charging cradle.

What does everyone else own or recommend?

RE: Nintendo 3ds digital copies

Merged the digital copies and accessories thread with the main thread, since they are things concerning the 3DS experience as a whole.

I'd much rather have the physical copy. No need to transfer data or change cards in case anything happens to the 3DS, easier to give away (I didn't have accessibility to my 3DS for one week when I agreed to let my brother play LoZ OoT). Sure, it's easier to lose it, but up until now I haven't lost a single game from the GBC days till today. Digital copies are cool when the game isn't sold (and many games aren't sold here), but that's about it. Loading up the SD card only to delete something after some time is a total waste of money and space, especially if you have access to the physical copy.

I feel the odd need to defend digital copies. I do buy a physical copy of most games I buy, but digital copies to me fill a specific niche even outside of digital-only games. I usually only bring 1 physical game with me at all times, that one being the one inside my 3DS, because deciding what other games to bring seems pointlessly time-consuming (especially since I don't often play when I'm not at home, I mostly bring my 3DS for Streetpass stuff) and it would mean having to divide my rather sizeable game collection and always taking some sort of carrying case with me as well. Now, there are a few games which I want to have with me at all times, these include popular multi-player games (say, Mario Kart, which sadly wasn't available digitally when I bought it), long-term games which do not require constant attention (I don't play Animal Crossing, but it would be a perfect example, actual examples I do own are Fire Emblem and Pokémon, both of which I did buy digitally) and of course games which can be used to kill some time (which includes most digital-only games, Pushmo is a personal favourite, but the original Super Mario Bros has been filling that niche quite nicely as well).

As an example, I bought a physical copy of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (which was amazing and you should buy, like, yesterday) because when I play a Zelda game it's a dedicated project to me: it'll be the only game I play for any significant length of time until I finish it. However, I bought a digital copy of Pokémon because this allows me to train or breed a bit when I have the time would having to plan to bring the game beforehand, and it would theoretically allow me to trade and/or battle someone in real life at all times. I know a lot of people just take their entire collection (or at least relevant multi-player games) with them at all times, but I personally like to travel light and having to take out my the cartridge of the game I'm currently dedicated just to quickly do a Pokémon battle seems too much of an unnecessary hassle to me, even when at home and within arm's reach of my cartridges.

You could of course just buy a reasonably sized SD card, having to delete a game seems like it would get rid of the only real advantage digital copies have.

I'm in the same boat as DNA, more or less. I have the digital version of FE: Awakening because the special edition FE 3DS came with it like that, and I also have AA5 as a digital copy because that's not getting released as a hard copy. I plan on buying physical copies whenever possible because I love to be able to share them with friends, or my husband, and I just have a lot more freedom with physical copies. For example, right now the FE 3DS is my husband's (and the XY one we have is mine), so when I want to play FE:A again, I'm going to have to borrow his 3DS, which is kind of awkward.

I enjoy the fact that digital copies exist (especially for games like AA that might not have been localized otherwise), but I will continue to buy hard copies whenever possible.

As far as accessories go, I don't own or use any. My purse makes a good case; I don't need anything weird or fancy.

Guys, Four Swords is available on the 3DS E-Shop from today (January 30) for the next 4 days (so, until February 2nd).
I just chanced to log in and I saw it there. I figured I should let you all know.

Also, it's free.
