What if their was a fourth evolution to a pokemon. Like if Raichu evolved into something.

Hmmm... I don't think Nintendo will ever do that. I just think that because they've done the common three-string so far that four would just break tradition. Also, a Pokemon really never needs a fourth evolution. Three evolutions allow it to finally grow strong and equally learn the desired moves at each stage. In my opinion, I don't think it will happen but it might be a cool idea if Nintendo were to make one of them. I wonder what Raichu would evolve in to... :p

This is another subject I've been thinking about the last few weeks. A 4th evolution could be possible, but there need to be a few rules. I actually think it might happen in the far far future, a very little change.

Like Raichu can't evolve anymore. Because Pikachu is evolved by an item, Pokemon who have evolved in a special way, with item/trade/lv.up @ special area aren't able to evolve anymore.

But if we give the Pokemon the terms of TGC, like a Bulbasaur is a ''basic stage'', Ivysaur is a ''1st stage'' and Venusaur is the ''2nd stage'', a third stage isn't possible so Venusaur would never evolve (well they're starters so Nintendo would probably leave them as how they are) But if they weren't starters then there is still the possibility of a 4th evolution, more like a pre-evolution in this case. Like this; Pichu is ''baby stage'' Pikachu is ''basic stage'' and Raichu is ''1st stage''. So it can be possible of giving Bulbasaur a pre-evo. Theoretically it is possible (?).

There are 2 rules playing here; 1. ''A Pokemon evolution line can have; a baby stage, basic stage, 1st stage and a 2nd stage.'' And rule 2. ''A evolution line can't have more than 3 stages.''

By removing the 2nd rule it would give Nintendo a lot more options than before, and we can expect pre-evo's of Pokemon like Swinub, Mareep and Shinx.

But I highly doubt if this ever is going to happen. Probably not, but this might be a nice addition to the games (if they do it right)...

@ GraveTheUndead, what do you mean with ''alternate evolutions''? Like a split-evo? That already exists, example; Poliwhirl can evolve into Poliwrath or Politoed, 2 evolutions possible.
