To the webmasters and members of PokéGym and PokéBeach;

Hello. My name is Justin, and I have been within the Pokémon community since the Japanese announcement for Ruby and Sapphire – whenever that occurred. Whilst I have not been within the Trading Card Game community for particularly long, I have recently begun playing the Trading Card Game again. In real life, I have an extremely limited budget and an even more limited card collection, and thus, I have developed a strong liking for programs such as Redshark. However, upon getting involved in these two communities, it has become drastically apparent that very few people are online to engage in these online battles.
The boards on your respective forums that pertain to online battling are quite frankly, highly disorganized. This is disappointing and rather confusing for several reasons; PokéBeach, supposed supporter of Redshark seem to be failing in its duty to promote play within the program, and PokéGym, the community of seemingly serious battlers have few people who are indicating that they wish to engage in Redshark battles in order to test their decks. Many claim that an online community for battling is nearly impossible to formulate and maintain, but this could not be further from the truth – the competitive battling faction of the Pokémon fan base has an enormous amount of active players, and I have never been online and was unable to find a battle with another. The same applies for the Yu-gi-oh! Trading Card Game (despite its dying state) and its online counterpart, YVD.

Thus, I would like to propose that perhaps the administrators and the members of these two communities collaborate on creating some sort of unifying league or online community pertaining to using Redshark as a means of battle. This would benefit, as far as I can see, many Pokémon TCG players. Newcomers would get a chance to get a feel for the game without having to spend lucrative amounts of money on cards they may never use – whereas, experienced players will have a twenty four hour access to an opponent in order to test a new deck, rather than having to wait until every Saturday, when their local league takes place.
I would be more than willing to write up and create the blueprints for such a program, but before that begins, I would like to ask a few questions in order to formulate a design.

1. Are you a casual or competitive player of the Pokémon TCG?
2. How often do you play against other players?
3. Do you attend a local league?
4. If so, how often do you attend the aforementioned league and is the nature of the league competitive or casual?
5. How long have you been playing the Pokémon TCG under its current rule set? (DP-on)
6. How long have you been playing the Pokémon TCG in total?
7. Would you be interested in a Redshark based online league?
8. How often would you play in the league?
9. Would you prefer a league similar to the league(s) displayed in:
• the real life TCG,
• the animé and manga,
• the handheld Pokémon games, or
• real life sports

10. How old are you?
11. Would you like the league to be segregated in any way?
12. If so, by what factor would you like segregation to occur? By age? Skill level? Other?
13. Would you be interested in moderator or administrative position within the league?
14. How long have you been a member of the online Pokémon community?
15. How long have you been a member of the online Pokémon TCG community?
16. Are you a respected member of either community? If so, which one?
17. If this becomes a reality, how would you like to be contacted? Please keep in mind that instant messaging programs are the worst way to do so.

I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to fill out the above survey. I will personally read each response and follow up shortly.

First off: Whoa...Loooong rant.

Second: I agree with the whole "Online Battle" thing. There's not alot of competitors who actually play online and it's a shame.

Thirdly: Welcome to PokeBeach.

Fourth: Looong survey, but I shall fill it out...

1. Are you a casual or competitive player of the Pokémon TCG?
Both.
2. How often do you play against other players?
Whenever I can, normally once a week.
3. Do you attend a local league?
Yes.
4. If so, how often do you attend the aforementioned league and is the nature of the league competitive or casual?
Every week and it's a little of both.
5. How long have you been playing the Pokémon TCG under its current rule set? (DP-on)
Under it's current set up? As long as every other TCGer since the DP-On season just started not even a month ago.
6. How long have you been playing the Pokémon TCG in total?
About a year and 2 months.
7. Would you be interested in a Redshark based online league?
Sounds interesting and it would kill the boredum and probably bring more members and such.
8. How often would you play in the league?
As often as I could.
9. Would you prefer a league similar to the league(s) displayed in:
• the real life TCG,
• the animé and manga,
• the handheld Pokémon games, or
• real life sports
Real Life. I don't see how there could be a league similar to the Anime/Manga or the Games, as only the Games have had a TCG Spin-off, and that was more like the Main Series.
10. How old are you?
15.
11. Would you like the league to be segregated in any way?
Yeah.
12. If so, by what factor would you like segregation to occur? By age? Skill level? Other?
By the set Age Division as noted by Pokemon Organized Play rules.
13. Would you be interested in moderator or administrative position within the league?
If possible and if there aren't any age limitations to Mods/Admins.
14. How long have you been a member of the online Pokémon community?
Hm...Almost a year or so.
15. How long have you been a member of the online Pokémon TCG community?
Hm...A few months, maybe since Janurary 08
16. Are you a respected member of either community? If so, which one?
Um. Respected...The only place I'm really known is here, and it seems like a respectful place.
17. If this becomes a reality, how would you like to be contacted? Please keep in mind that instant messaging programs are the worst way to do so.
Email, Private Messages, Instant Messaging, Any way possible, really.

If you seriously believe this is going to help in any way at all, and I do if you are dedicated to this project, I'd be glad to help.

1. Are you a casual or competitive player of the Pokémon TCG?
-I like the League more than the Tournaments, but I actively enjoy both and therefore competitive.
2. How often do you play against other players?
-I go to my League almost every week, and to around 4 Tournaments a season. You do the math.
3. Do you attend a local league?
-You think? See above.
4. If so, how often do you attend the aforementioned league and is the nature of the league competitive or casual?
-This question is kinda rendered obsolete by your other 3 questions.
5. How long have you been playing the Pokémon TCG under its current rule set? (DP-on)
-Since DP.
6. How long have you been playing the Pokémon TCG in total?
-Since Base Set, but I stopped for a few years after Neo4, then came back right when Power Keepers was new.
7. Would you be interested in a Redshark based online league?
-Sure, more battles are always fun.
8. How often would you play in the league?
-Whenever I have time, which is mostly only in evenings and at night.
9. Would you prefer a league similar to the league(s) displayed in:
• the real life TCG,
• the animé and manga,
• the handheld Pokémon games, or
• real life sports
-Gotta heart anime style, so I'll go with that. Although irl TCG leagues are cozy and such, too.
10. How old are you?
-I'm 17, almost 18 if you care. xP
11. Would you like the league to be segregated in any way?
-Sure, why not? Noone wants to play against players "out of their league"
12. If so, by what factor would you like segregation to occur? By age? Skill level? Other?
-Like YGO World Championship (if you happen to know that game) I'd use a Duel Point system.
The more games you win, the stronger your opponents get. So yeah, skill level.
13. Would you be interested in moderator or administrative position within the league?
-If I happen to have enough time for that, I think I could be.
14. How long have you been a member of the online Pokémon community?
-Ever since I started playing again, so since Power Keepers.
15. How long have you been a member of the online Pokémon TCG community?
-Same.
16. Are you a respected member of either community? If so, which one?
-Yeah I always ask people whether they respect me. No, of course not, but I think some of my insights are appreciated, every once in a while. xP
17. If this becomes a reality, how would you like to be contacted? Please keep in mind that instant messaging programs are the worst way to do so.
-Kay. PMing me on Pokebeach will have to do then, I guess? Or you can probably email me, my adress should be around here somewhere.

Amusingly enough, IM would probably be the fastest way to contact me. I'm usually signed in, so even if I'm not at the computer, I'll get the message the next time I use the computer. My AIM is Silent Yaywalter. I often go days without checking my e-mail, but if it's your preferred method of contact, my e-mail is [email protected], which you can also message me at with MSN.

A mix, really

Um, since the format started?
6. How long have you been playing the Pokémon TCG in total?

I'd love an online league, saturday tourny's really screw me up because I don't get to playtest as much as I'd like.
8. How often would you play in the league?
Whenever I have the time, and I'm homeschooled, so that's not too much of an issue.
9. Would you prefer a league similar to the league(s) displayed in:
• the real life TCG,

I'm not even sure I understand the question, so I'm just going to go with the first choice.

10. How old are you?
16
11. Would you like the league to be segregated in any way?
No, anyone should be able to play who they want. It would help if it was made known peoples age/skill/whatever else so people could pick opponents better though.

N/A
13. Would you be interested in moderator or administrative position within the league?

1. Are you a casual or competitive player of the Pokémon TCG?
Technically, I haven't actually played pokemon real life at all (except with really old cards) until the upcoming BR's but I'm not a terrible pokemon player thanks to Redshark and PokeBeach :D
2. How often do you play against other players?
Nobody. At all.
3. Do you attend a local league?
No, but I will soon (like, in a week or two).
4. If so, how often do you attend the aforementioned league and is the nature of the league competitive or casual?
NA
5. How long have you been playing the Pokémon TCG under its current rule set? (DP-on)
Well, I had to learn the new DP (or rules that stuck from the Ex sets) thansk to PokeBeach (Chairman Kaga especially :D) because the newest rules I rules I knew were Expedition rules.
6. How long have you been playing the Pokémon TCG in total?
I first played the poke TCG when base Set first came out. I played a bit casually with my Dad but then I stopped for several years, kept playing, then I came to Poke Beach. So, about 7 or so years.
7. Would you be interested in a Redshark based online league?
Well, I'm not too sure... I would like more Redshark use, which this will promote, but not a league necessarily... I can play at one in real life. Also, there could be a problem with Time Zones... Me being in Australia and all.
8. How often would you play in the league?
When I would feel like it, I guess.
9. Would you prefer a league similar to the league(s) displayed in:
• the real life TCG,
• the animé and manga,
• the handheld Pokémon games, or
• real life sports
Err, I don't really know how those are run exactly.
10. How old are you?
I'm 12 years old.
11. Would you like the league to be segregated in any way?
If it would help the overall enjoyment, yes.
12. If so, by what factor would you like segregation to occur? By age? Skill level? Other?
Skill Level. But that might be difficult to judge. Age is a decent way of doing it, actually, because as a GENERAL RULE, older people are better. So it is like a skill separation, but an easy great way of doing it. XD
13. Would you be interested in moderator or administrative position within the league?
Definitely not.
14. How long have you been a member of the online Pokémon community?
Uhhh... When did I join? Okay, um, almost 4 months then.
15. How long have you been a member of the online Pokémon TCG community?
4 months.
16. Are you a respected member of either community? If so, which one?
I only participate in the TCG community on PokeBeach... Err, I can't really tell if people know/respect me or not... I haven't been aroudn for too long, so call it a 'no'.
17. If this becomes a reality, how would you like to be contacted? Please keep in mind that instant messaging programs are the worst way to do so.
How else apart from instant messaging programs? Well, maybe the Pokebeach chat. If not that, the only option for me is Skype. XD EDIT: Actually, PM'ing could work as well.

I hope this help establish a healthy Redshark community. :D
